MyChart Two-Step Verification

MyChart two-step verification

Starting Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, MultiCare MyChart will use two-step verification as the default when users log in. This change adds an extra layer of security for MyChart users.

What is two-step verification?

Also called multi-factor authentication or two-step authentication, this extra step creates additional security to keep your information safe when logging in from a new device or new internet browser. It ensures that even if your MyChart password is stolen, others will not be able to access your account without the code.

  • Step One: Log in with your usual username and password
  • Step Two: You’ll be prompted to enter a verification code that will be sent via text message or email to the contact information in your MyChart account

Quick tip: Ensure your information is up to date

For the best experience, it is important that your current mobile phone number and email address are in your MyChart account.

  • In MyChart, select Menu, then Personal Information (under Account Settings toward the bottom) to view your current contact information, and then select the Edit button to make changes. Be sure to click the green Save changes button before leaving the page.
  • If you need additional help, please contact MyChart customer support at 844-388-2356, Monday through Friday, 7am to 5pm.

What to expect

When you log in for the first time on a new device (smartphone, computer, tablet, etc.) or a new internet browser (including Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari), you’ll be prompted to complete two-step verification.

  • After you complete Step One (logging in with your username and password), you will be able to choose where to receive the verification code (through text message or email*).
  • After completing Step Two (entering the verification code), you will have the option to select Skip this step next time and you won’t be asked to complete Step Two again for 90 days on that device and/or browser.

*If you do not have a mobile number on file, email will be your only option in Step Two. To add a mobile number to your account, you can update your personal information in MyChart at any time.

How to turn off two-step verification

We strongly recommend keeping two-step verification for extra security. However, you can opt out of using two-step verification by changing your MyChart Security Settings. You may need to repeat this step every 90 days.

MyChart website:

  1. Log in to your MyChart account
  2. Select Security Settings from Menu (under Account Settings toward the bottom)
  3. Select the Turn off two-step verification button

MyChart app:

  1. Log in to your MyChart account
  2. Select Account Settings from the menu
  3. Toggle off the Two-Step Verification option
