American Red Cross Serving South Puget Sound & Olympics

Program: Blood Saves Lives

Funding support will strengthen the ability of the American Red Cross Northwest Region to collect and provide blood products to those in need. Funds will help cover the cost of approximately one week of blood drives in the Puget Sound area. This will provide the ability to collect an estimated 150 units of blood, which has the potential to save up to 450 lives.

Program: Equipment Updates

Ashley House provides compassionate care for medically fragile children in a home-like setting, operating out of 5 group homes. Funds will help to purchase and install equipment at all five South Puget Sound locations.

Cancer Lifeline

Program: Improving Health Care for Individuals Diagnosed with Cancer

Funds will sustain and grow services including Cancer Lifeline’s no-cost counseling program for low-income cancer patients. Funds will primarily be used to compensate contract mental health counselors and other program expenses.

Medical Teams International

Program: Care & Connect Mobile Dental Clinics

Funds will cover the operating expenses of holding approximately 22 Medical Teams mobile dental clinics in partnership with MultiCare in Pierce and South King Counties, providing free dental care to approximately 286 low-income and marginalized adults over a 12-month period.

Prescription Drug Assistance Foundation

Program: Prescription Drug Assistance Network

Prescription Drug Assistance Network (PDAN) is dedicated to making medications available to low-income, uninsured and underinsured patients in Western Washington communities whose prescription drug coverage is inadequate. Funds will be used to help sustain personalized one-on-one assistance services for patients and will provide training opportunities for care managers and health care providers.

Program: Sumner Food Bank Program

Funding will be used to meet the increasing food insecurity in low-income families, specifically in running the food bank, marketplace and warehouse. Funding will be used for the food bank building, equipment & vehicle costs, payroll, food purchases and non-perishable groceries and warehouse supplies.

Pierce County

AHAT Homecare

Program: Stable Housing & Support for Low-Income Pierce County Residents Living with HIV/AIDS

AHAT provides no-cost access to quality care, stable housing and relevant treatment options for housing-insecure Pierce County residents with HIV/AIDS. Funds will support the staffing and operations of Three Cedars and Project Open Door, benefiting diverse, underserved individuals living with HIV as they work toward a greater quality of life and increased self-sufficiency.

Boys and Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound

Program: Social Emotional Learning Program

Funding will support the successful delivery of the Integrated Social Emotional Learning Program at both Milgard Family Eastside Club and the Henry T. Schatz Club. Funds will help support a portion of the wages and benefits of the on-staff mental health expert who facilitates the program and supports the organization with the social emotional learning curriculum and behavioral management. Additionally, Dianna will lead and deliver the annual 20 hours of Mental Health Wellness and Safety training to all staff. The remaining funds will be allocated to both Tacoma Clubs to support the critical need in updating supplies and tools for Calming Corners.

Program: Onsite Mental Health Services

Funding will be used for CJK’s onsite mental health program and will help to continue providing 12-15 current clients with weekly counseling sessions with a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and 2-3 hours of peer support needed to help them to their path of recovery, healing and self-sufficiency.

Program: The Loft Youth Shelter

Funds will beused to support The Coffee Oasis Pierce County Youth Shelter and Programs. The Loft Youth Shelter is a 12 bed DCYF licensed under-aged youth shelter in Tacoma that provides youth with a safe and encouraging place to live while working toward sustainable housing and employment. Youth programs include safe and clean beds, showers and hygiene products, clothing and laundry, snacks and meals, internal and external resource referrals, mentoring and case management, access to emergency medical care, family reunification and after care.

Program: Integrated School Supports

Funding from this grant will support Communities in Schools Lakewood within the expanding network service area. This includes the Site Coordinator costs, food pantry stocking and student supplies.

Program: Emergency Food Network’s General Distribution

Emergency Food Network (EFN) is Pierce County’s nonprofit food distributor, with a mission to provide Pierce County with a consistent, diverse and nutritious food supply so that no person goes hungry. Funding will go to general operations.

Girl Scouts of Western WA

Program: Financial Assistance Program

Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) distributes Financial Assistance (FA) to girls and gender expansive youth enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program and/or foster care, and as possible, to anyone who asks for it. Funds will be used to issue FA grants to girls and gender expansive youth in Pierce County, which can be used for membership in Girl Scouts USA national organization, week-long camps, vouchers which will help Girl Scouts purchase camping supplies, uniforms, patches, beads, badges and other program supplies, troop dues, GSWW event costs and costs for adult volunteers to attend training to learn to become troop leaders.

Program: Play to Learn Pierce County

Greentrike advocates throughout Pierce County on behalf of quality early childhood education through research-driven, play-based models. Funding will support Play to Learn Pierce County program delivery in the 2023-2024 program year. Funding will help support staffing (Play to Learn teachers and assistants), contracted consulting expenses (data collection, analysis and outcome distribution) and program materials necessary for providing P2L.

Program: HopeSparks’ Behavioral Health Services

HopeSparks’ Behavioral Health Services program provides evidence-based and trauma-informed behavioral health care for children and their families. Grant will support behavioral health services for children, youth and families in Pierce County. Funds will support direct services including the time of mental health therapists, and will benefit more than 1,000 children and their families this year.

Funding will be directed to the Uncompensated Care Fund which allows Lindquist Dental Clinic for Children to provide essential dental care and oral hygiene education to children and youth from low-income families.

Multicultural Child & Family Hope Center

Program: Hilltop Family Resource Center

Multicultural Child & Family Hope Center is a high-volume direct service provider that accomplishes prolific distribution of concrete goods, basic needs and family resources to build service equity among historically disadvantaged populations throughout Pierce County. Funds will be used to support partial salary for case managers and flexible fund assistance to families in the areas of basic needs, eviction prevention, crisis needs, transportation support and other needs that present a barrier to stabilization and self-sufficiency.

New Phoebe House Association

Program: New Phoebe House – Offering Shelter, Recovery and Reunification

New Phoebe House Association recognizes the critical need to provide shelter and recovery resources for mothers (and their children) impacted by chemical dependency, homelessness and domestic violence so they secure reunification with their children. Funds will be utilized to support dedicated staff members in facilitating the project’s components, including providing case management, mental health care, teaching parenting and life skills, and offering guidance and support for women struggling to maintain a sober lifestyle and reunite with their children in a stable and healthy home environment.

Northwest Infant Survival & SIDS Alliance (NISSA)

Program: SUID/SIDS – Unsafe Sleep Prevention & Crib Distribution

NISSA’s program aims to reduce preventable infant deaths due to SUID/SIDS (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death & Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) in Pierce County by promoting safe infant sleep practices. Funds will go to purchasing crib and sheet sets for families living in Pierce County.

Program: Feeding Neighbors in Need

Nourish Pierce County’s mission is to provide nutritious food and support services to those in need with compassion, dignity and respect. Nourish provides each client with enough food to prepare three meals a day, three days each week for every household member. Funds will be used for operating costs.

Our Savior Lutheran Church

Program: Backpacks 4 Kids

Backpacks 4 Kids (B4K) identifies hungry students and provides a food bag filled with nutritious, easy-to-prepare meals and snacks each weekend all through the school year. B4K also stocks pantries at the secondary schools in the district, as well as at the district office, allowing families additional access to nutritious food and specially requested food. The goal of the program is combat poor nutrition, poor health, inattention and lack of motivation caused by hunger.

Rainbow Center

Program: Gender Transition Assistance

Rainbow Center will be starting a program to assist low-income transgender individuals who are seeking to start their gender transition in any capacity. Funding will be used for medical laboratory testing necessary to track hormone levels, mental health provider costs, prescription costs, renewing official identification records, medical copays, gender affirming clothing, one time laser hair removal appointments, and emergency and temporary housing when necessary.

Rebuilding Together South Sound

Program: Community Revitalization Partnership

Rebuilding Together South Sound is a leading local nonprofit dedicated to repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives with a vision of safe homes and communities for every person. Funds will be used to support Community Revitalization Partnership home repair/modification projects through two programs, Safe at Home and Rebuilding Day. The bulk of the funding will be allocated for materials and services needed to complete repairs or modifications, while any remaining funds will be utilized for operational support, including increased outreach in underserved communities.

Program: The Jarvie Memorial Lodge

The Jarvie Memorial Lodge is an emergency shelter that provides shelter, basic needs and case management for families and individuals experiencing homelessness. Funds will be used to remove housing barriers and help place individuals into permanent housing.

Shades of Divinity

Program: Divinity Kits and Pantry Program

The purpose of Shades of Divinity Birth Kit-Starts/Divinity Pantry program is to increase protective factors for social determinants of health and improve health promotion efforts for BIPOC communities at risk for poor maternal and general health outcomes. Funds will go towards program expenses for the Birth Kit-Starts/Divine Pantry. Birth Kit-Starts will include self-care items, information, resources and goodies selected to enhance the individual’s pregnancy experience.

Program: General Operations

Sound Outreach helps improve people’s housing situations by supporting their financial planning and literacy, specifically through helping clients develop savings plans for deposits and down payments and learning about mortgage lending. Funds will be used to support general operating and staffing costs of their programs.

Program: St Vinnie’s Homeless Prevention & Basic Needs Program

Funds will be used to support the Homeless Prevention & Basic Needs Program that assists low-income and homeless persons with basic needs such as rent/rental deposits and utility assistance, emergency motel shelter, prepaid grocery and gasoline cards, inclement weather survival items and hygiene supplies.

Step By Step Family Support Center

Program: Maternity Support Services

As a Washington State First Steps provider, Step by Step’s primary services are providing Maternity Support Services and Infant Case Management to at-risk pregnant and parenting women. Funding will help support families by allowing Step by Step to extend visits to high-risk clients beyond what First Steps funds provide. These additional home visits will help the case managers to identify and address emerging risk factors that can surface later such as gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, depression and/or prenatal mood disorders, and/or the use of alcohol or drugs.

Tacoma Pierce County Habitat for Humanity

Program: Creating and Maintaining Affordable Homeownership in Pierce County

Tacoma Pierce County Habitat for Humanity has been providing affordable homeownership for moderate-income Pierce County families. Funds will be used as needed in each of Tacoma Habitat’s program areas: Housing Counseling, Aging in Place and New Homeownership, including the homes located in the Blue Zones Project area. Each of these programs invest in different but essential areas that work toward the goal of creating a culture of affordable homeownership in the community.

Program: Girls With Purpose/Sisterhood in the City

Girls With Purpose/Sisterhood in the City is an all-girls program that combines positive adult female mentoring with group activities and a structured curriculum that helps to empower young females of color to make healthy decisions, bolster self-confidence and cultural awareness, and succeed as productive citizens, both scholastically and in all aspects of their personal life. Funds will be used for program coordination to include mentoring, management, and reporting; printing costs and materials; and snacks to support the projects and activities in Girls With Purpose/Sisterhood across Tacoma/Pierce County throughout the rest of 2023 and into 2024.

WRK ZONE provides responsible gaming, character building, and bullying prevention clubs to 100% BIPOC youth (70% of whom are below 50% of area median family income) that challenges them to level up to their full potential. Trinity Neighborhood Free Clinic provides medical and nursing care, medications and sports physicals to the uninsured and underinsured of Tacoma. Funds will be used to cover the costs of operating expenses, rent, insurance, medications, and stipend for the executive director.

Program: Relationship Violence Education and Prevention

The Healthy Love program is an 8-10 week intensive curriculum for teens and young adults. Through this program, the YWCA hopes to empower youth to take control of their relationships by providing them with the knowledge they need to form healthy relationships and identify signs of unhealthy or abusive behavior. Funds will be used to support staff time and acquire physical resources for implementation, such as supplies and administrative costs.

Program: Food Bank Support

Funds will be used to purchase food for children in the Backpack Program, support the costs of the delivery program (supplying food and taking it where needed), extend hours of the food bank and employ staff to handle caseloads and food distribution.

Program: Emergency Assistance/Homelessness Prevention Program

St. Francis House’s Emergency Assistance/Homelessness Prevention Program is comprised of two funds that provide low-income Puyallup Valley residents with one-time assistance with rent, utilities, transportation and more (as well as referrals to additional resources) in order to avoid homelessness and help meet critical needs. Funds will be used to pay for portions of rent and utilities for up to 15 needy households.

Children’s Home Society of Washington’s family resource centers acts as a single entry point for families, providing comprehensive, integrated and collaborative community-based services. Funding will go towards staff salaries and benefits, program supplies and materials, building rent and utilities.

Bellevue Schools Foundation

Program: Student Mental Health Services Expansion

Funding will help support the expansion of student mental health services, including suicide screening and prevention efforts, in the Bellevue School District. Funding will help pay for a mental health screening tool that will be administered by trained school staff including counselors and teachers; support for staff training on the screening tool as well as on-going consultation with cognitive behavioral therapy community specialists; a half-time Signs of Suicide program coordinator staff position; and related books and materials for staff and students.

Kent CEC

Program: Kent Community Engagement Center (CEC)

The Kent Community Engagement Center (CEC) directly responds to individuals experiencing homelessness or in need of essential services in the Kent and South King County community. The CEC provides access to hygiene supplies, laundry, showers, food and a place out of the elements four days a week. In addition to essential services, guests can receive case management, onsite health care and resources. Funding will help pay for staffing and general program expenses for the CEC to continue providing uninterrupted services.

Christ Community Free Clinic

Program: Monthly Free Medical & Dental Clinic

Last year’s funding helped with acquiring most of the hardware and software needed to diagnose more illnesses and recruit new volunteer providers. This year’s funding will help to finish these acquisitions, plus help acquire needed dental equipment. The goal is to re-open the free dental practice to accommodate patients who are also in need of dental care. Funding will also help cover the clinic’s operational costs which will increase due to being open for additional days each month.

Program: HIV Care and Support for LGBTQ+ Latinx Community

Entre Hermanos’ program will focus on providing HIV-related care services and promoting health care and well-being for the priority population of LGBTQ+ Latinx individuals with goals to prevent HIV and link Latinx clients to HIV care and treatment services. Funds will provide peer navigation, medical and non-medical case management and HIV+ support groups for LGBTQ+ Latinx clients.

Program: Culturally Relevant Food Sourcing and Distribution

Food Lifeline works to fill the immediate needs of people facing hunger and reduce systemic food insecurity by creating long-term solutions that focus on the root causes of hunger and poverty. Funds will support the increase of targeted food resources by adding BIPOC-led, -serving food banks, meal programs and food access points.

King County Sexual Assault Resource Center

Program: KCSARC’s Wrap-around Services for Survivors of Sexual Assault

Funds will support King County Sexual Assault Resource Center (KCSARC) in providing trauma-specific therapy, legal advocacy and parent education to more than 2,000 child and youth victims of sexual abuse, and parent education to the parents/caregivers of 300 child and youth victims of sexual abuse. Funds will support the general expenses of KCSARC, and include salaries, program supplies, training and administrative overhead costs.

Funds will increase Kent immigrants and refugees’ access to culturally relevant and Halal foods. This will help keep shelves stocked and mitigate food fluctuations, which sometimes occur due to limited donated food.

Program: Lois Price-Spratlen Scholarship Foundation

The Lois Price-Spratlen Foundation works to bring advanced practice psychiatric nursing within reach of the people living in Washington state. Funds will be used to provide scholarships to students attending accredited psychiatric nurse practitioner programs in Washington state.

NAMI Seattle

Program: Helping Families, Healing Lives

The Helping Families, Healing Lives program is an 8-week course focused on building knowledge of mental health diagnoses and their symptoms, self-care for the caregiver, and strategies to support and communicate with a child living with serious mental illness. Funding for this project will support the following personnel activities: program coordination and administration, outreach and recruitment, and volunteer management. Additionally, funding will help to cover the cost of program materials, postage and volunteer stipends.

Program: Peer-Led Mental Health Outreach for Puget Sound Youth

The focus of NAMI Washingtons’ Mental Health Youth Outreach Initiative is to provide young people, parents, and educators with the knowledge that enables them to challenge the stigma, to recognize early warning signs and to seek help when it’s most needed. Funds will be used to support the Ending the Silence (EtS) and College Club programming for youth, educators and parents.

The purpose of Child Welfare Prevention (Host Families) is to support and strengthen families going through a crisis causing a disruption in the parent’s ability to provide safe and loving care for their children. Host Families helps families in Pierce County move from crisis to stability and create a more stable and nurturing home environment for their children. Funds will be used for program activities.

Raising Girls

Program: Expanding Service to South King County

Funds will be used to purchase full size personal hygiene and menstrual products and deliver them directly into the hands of schools and social service organizations for underserved students in the Federal Way School District. Funds will enable Raising Girls to distribute bags for girls and boys attending middle and high schools.

ROOTS Young Adult Shelter

Program: Responding to the Needs of Young Adults Experiencing Homelessness in Seattle

Funds will allow ROOTS Young Adult Shelter to continue providing nightly low-barrier emergency shelter for up to 45 guests, meals, case management, hygiene facilities, clean linens, peer support, life development programs, health care and mental health referrals, housing and education referrals, and other related services to young adults ages 18-25 experiencing homelessness in Seattle.

The Somali Health Board mission is to reduce health disparities in King County’s Somali community. Funding will be used to support medical staff, supplies, outreach and marketing materials and other essential program expenses. Funds will sustain services such as mental health services, daylong health clinics, community health education, youth health initiatives, senior services, and pregnancy and infant services.

Vine Maple Place’s Stable Families (SF) Program works to prevent or end a homeless episode for families by assisting them in obtaining safe, stable housing, identifying the tools they need to achieve self-sufficiency and working with them to heal and build new skills to leave homelessness forever. Funding will support the Stable Families Program model.

Program: Hope RISING Clinic

The Hope RISING Clinic offers assessment, diagnosis and treatment for children birth to age 13 with prenatal exposure to drugs and alcohol, as well as support for their families. Funding will provide families with occupational therapy, sensory processing support, mental/behavioral health support, speech therapy, social skills support, family support and psychoeducation.

Program: Community Health Navigation

The YMCA of Greater Seattle’s Community Health Navigators provide culturally responsive, multilingual outreach, resource navigation and health support programs. Funds will be used to support staff expenses directly related to executing the program and providing services.

YWCA Seattle-King-Snohomish

Program: Tackling Food Insecurity: Continuing Support for Families

This program aims to alleviate ongoing food insecurity that was exacerbated by the pandemic and is continuing to be impacted by rising inflation. Funding will be used to purchase grocery store gift cards for families living at YWCA housing sites in Central Seattle and in South and East King County. Gift cards will be distributed among YWCA emergency shelters and transitional housing. Staff and case managers at those locations would distribute the cards to YWCA participants as well as to low-income families in the surrounding community.

Peninsula Community Health Services – Community Medical Respite Center

Program: Community Medical Respite Center

Community Medical Respite is a place for homeless people to heal after hospitalization and it endeavors to be a launching pad for each patient’s future too. While at Community Medical Respite, services will be available to connect people to housing, employment, mental health services, substance use disorder services, medical and dental care. Funds will be used to purchase hygiene products, clothing and storage solutions for the patients at Community Medical Respite.

Peninsula Community Health Services – Mobile Food Rx

Program: Mobile Food Rx

Peninsual Community Health Services’ Food RX program addresses food insecurity in the moment, while the patients are being seen in the clinics. When patients identify food insecurity as part of their support screening process, and the need is identified as being urgent, PCHS’s care team provides the patient with a food box. Funds will be used to purchase shelf sustainable foods for distribution at PCHS’s mobile clinics and the staff time to purchase food, assemble food boxes and manage inventory.

Scarlet Road is the primary provider of services for survivors of sexual exploitation and sex trafficking in the Kitsap region. The project supports prevention training for youth and crisis services for survivors. Funds will be used toward operating costs of the program.

Program: Sustaining SKH’s Food Programs Through Time of Record Need

South Kitsap Helpline is one of the few local emergency food resources in the Kitsap area and is critical for ensuring that vulnerable populations can access ample nutritious food year round. Funds will be used to cover costs of program staff who procure food, manage inventory, supervise volunteers, facilitate food distribution and deliver food to home-bound clients. Funds will also be used for program supplies, purchasing difficult to procure food and other program and administrative expenses.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington

Program: Community-Based Mentoring Program

In Community-Based program, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington facilitates meaningful connections between youth and adult mentors who engage in community activities together. Funds will be used to expand the established community-based mentoring program to increase the amount of matches between underserved, vulnerable youth and trained adult mentors. These costs include enrollment fees, background and reference checks for Bigs, as well as providing ongoing match support to guarantee the safety of all involved.

Garden-Raised Bounty (GRuB)

Program: GRuB Garden Project (GGP)

Each spring, the GRuB Garden Project brings home gardens, training and resources to around 35 recipients. Each garden is filled with weed-free, nutrient-rich soil, and recipients receive seeds, vegetable starts, and gardening guides. Throughout the year, GRuB provides free workshops on topics such as sustainable gardening practices, garden planning, harvesting, composting, seed saving, food preservation and cooking. Funds will be utilized to support staff salaries for the GRuB Garden Project.

Hands On Children’s Museum

Program: Sensory Friendly Educational Programming & Resources

Funding will be used to support staff time and supplies for the development of two different kinds of Sensory Friendly kits. The Sensory Friendly STEAM educational kits promote learning and development at home or in other settings away from the museum. The “fidget kits” include items that have a calming effect on children with sensory processing issues and are designed to make the museum more accessible to children with special needs during regular business hours. Funding will also support special guests and a museum staff member to assist with the New Olympia School District’s toddler group for children with disabilities and developmental delays.

Interfaith Works (IW) mission is to advance the social inclusion and empowerment of people experiencing homelessness through innovative practices of sheltering, mental health and emergency basic needs coordination. Funds will help support the general operations of Interfaith Works Homeless Services, including the Supportive Shelter Program, the Navigation Team, and the new project, Sergio’s daytime drop-in center.
