COVID-19 Information

COVID-19 is still in our communities

COVID-19 is a disease caused by a contagious respiratory virus that first appeared in 2020. Symptoms of COVID-19 have evolved over time, but common symptoms may still include fever, cough, congestion, sore throat, headache, fatigue or shortness of breath, among others. Symptoms of COVID-19 can be similar to symptoms of other illnesses like the flu and common cold.

Most people who contract COVID-19 now are likely to experience mild to moderate illness. Yet some people are still at higher risk of developing serious health complications, including:

  • People 60 and older
  • People with chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease
  • People with weakened immune systems
  • People who are pregnant

Get vaccinated

Though many cases of COVID-19 are now mild to moderate, there is no way to predict with certainty who may get very sick. One of the best ways to protect yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated.

Masks are optional, but highly recommended, in most areas of our hospitals and clinics. Visitors may be required to wear a mask in some areas to protect patients who are at higher risk of infection, such as those in adult or pediatric critical care units or those who are receiving cancer treatment or dialysis. High-risk areas will be marked with a sign requiring a mask. You can learn more by reading our visitor policies.
