Blackwell graduated from Geneva Medical College in New York in 1849.<\/p>\n<p>Another pioneering woman physician is Rebecca Lee Crumpler, the first Black woman to become a medical doctor in the U.S. She received her doctorate in 1864 from New England Female Medical College.<\/p>\n<p>Today and every day, we thank all of MultiCare Health System\u2019s many women physicians. Below, we\u2019ve collected a few stories about their inspiring work.<\/p>\n<h2>Award-winning Deaconess Transitions of Care team supports patients\u2019 success beyond the hospital<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/updates-www.mccdn.io\/provider\/meghan-roberts\/\">Meghan Roberts, MD<\/a>, saw an opportunity to help ease patients\u2019 shift from hospital to home by launching the Deaconess Transitions of Care (TOC) Team.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Roberts, medical director for MultiCare\u2019s Inland Northwest hospitalists, says the team\u2019s goal is to ensure no one leaves the hospital without a scheduled follow-up appointment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal is to set patients up for success,\u201d Dr. Roberts says.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/updates-www.mccdn.io\/vitals\/award-winning-deaconess-transitions-of-care-team-supports-patients-success-beyond-the-hospital\/\">Read the full story<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Rockwood physician: HIV treatment has evolved. Now, let\u2019s focus on long-term care<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/updates-www.mccdn.io\/provider\/rachel-safran\/\">Rachel Safran, MD<\/a>, joined MultiCare Rockwood Clinic in 2021 and is working on a number of HIV-related research projects in partnership with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/updates-www.mccdn.io\/services\/research\/\">MultiCare Institute for Research &amp; Innovation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Four decades after HIV became public knowledge, we\u2019ve reached a point where researchers can focus on caring for those living long term with the virus, says Dr. Safran, who is one of the Inland Northwest\u2019s only pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) providers, a proactive medication for individuals with a known risk of exposure to HIV.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/updates-www.mccdn.io\/vitals\/hiv-treatment-evolved-focus-long-term-care\/\">Read the full story<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>MultiCare physicians receive ACP awards<\/h2>\n<p>Dr. Roberts and Dr. Safran, referenced in stories above, were recognized in 2022 by the <a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonacp.org\/local-chapter-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Roberts was named Hospitalist of the Year for excellence in clinical skills, dedication to her patients, enthusiasm for medical practice and leadership.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Safran earned the ACP\u2019s Golden Apple Award, which recognizes her significant contributions to medical education in the Inland Northwest community.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/updates-www.mccdn.io\/newsroom\/2022\/11\/multicare-honored-with-acp-awards\/\">Read the news release<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Through the decades, Rockwood Clinic provider finds pride in walking alongside patients<\/h2>\n<p>Throughout her 35-year career, <a href=\"https:\/\/updates-www.mccdn.io\/provider\/beth-orenstein\/\">Beth Orenstein, MD<\/a>, has seen many things grow and evolve, from the ratio of women physicians to provider compensation to maternity leave practices.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I started, there were three other women physicians out of 78,\u201d says Dr. Orenstein, who is a family medicine doctor at MultiCare Rockwood Clinic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/updates-www.mccdn.io\/vitals\/through-the-decades-rockwood-clinic-provider-finds-pride-in-walking-alongside-patients\/\">Read the full story<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Mary Bridge Children\u2019s psychologist named NAMI Washington\u2019s Pediatric Provider of the Year<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybridge.org\/providers\/chris-ladish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chris Ladish, PhD<\/a>, chief clinical officer of pediatric behavioral health at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marybridge.org\/\">Mary Bridge Children\u2019s Hospital<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/updates-www.mccdn.io\/services\/behavioral-health\/\">MultiCare Behavioral Health Network<\/a>, earned the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.namiwa.org\/namiwa-annual-awards\">2022 Pediatric Provider of the Year award<\/a>\u00a0from the Washington state chapter of the\u00a0National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).<\/p>\n<p>A licensed clinical psychologist and pediatric neuropsychologist, Ladish has spent the past 25 years building and strengthening mental health services for children in need, particularly for those in Pierce and South King counties.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/updates-www.mccdn.io\/newsroom\/2022\/12\/mary-bridge-childrens-psychologist-named-nami-washingtons-pediatric-provider-of-the-year\/\">Read the news release<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Black History Month: 5 times Black scientists and clinicians have changed the landscape of health care<\/h2>\n<p>Although not MultiCare-specific, we\u2019ve profiled some pioneering Black women clinicians in honor of Black History Month, including Patricia Bath, MD.
