The first word of this nonprofit\u2019s name is also its best tool for changing the course of a family\u2019s life \u2014 Partners with Families and Children.<\/p>\n

The organization \u201cwalks alongside\u201d families, providing wraparound services and support that can help shape their future, says Stephanie Widhalm, director of the Children\u2019s Advocacy Center at Partners with Families and Children<\/a> (Partners).<\/p>\n

The Spokane-based nonprofit serves as a social safety net for children who have experienced \u2014 or are suspected of experiencing \u2014 abuse and neglect, along with their non-offending caregivers. Partners provides holistic, whole-family services, including the Children\u2019s Advocacy Center, mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, and life skills development.<\/p>\n

Originally founded in 1988 at MultiCare Deaconess Hospital, Partners obtained nonprofit status in 2003 and has since grown into its own space to better meet the needs of the community.<\/p>\n

Through the Children\u2019s Advocacy Center (CAC), Partners serves approximately 600 children annually across Spokane and Lincoln counties, says CEO Carol Plischke. Families are connected to Partners through referrals from Washington\u2019s Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF), law enforcement, medical providers or word-of-mouth.<\/p>\n

CAC\u2019s goal is to help families keep their children in the home or reunify families if children have been removed, Plischke says.<\/p>\n

A holistic approach\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Family action plans are tailored to the unique needs of each child and their caregivers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to look at all the dynamics that go into a family \u2026 like untreated intergenerational trauma,\u201d Plischke says. \u201cMental health and substance use disorder issues can be really big factors here, too.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false,"gt_translate_keys":[{"key":"rendered","format":"html"}]},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
