In the years that followed, it became more than she could have anticipated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt started with the drop-in center for things like hygiene and food,\u201d she explains. \u201cI learned over the years struggling with housing and stability that it was so much more than that. It gave me a lot of support that I didn\u2019t know was out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now Garcia works in youth and community engagement for <a href=\"https:\/\/rodshouse.org\/\">Rod\u2019s House<\/a>, and she\u2019s bringing that safety and support to others in Yakima.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is Rod\u2019s House?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Rod\u2019s House was established in 2009 by a group of community members who saw a need to help young people experiencing homelessness or instability at home, such as unreliable access to food or electricity, explains Amber Green, development director of the nonprofit.<\/p>\n<p>Young people ages 13-24 have access to <a href=\"https:\/\/rodshouse.org\/shelters\/\">shelters<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/rodshouse.org\/outreach\/\">case management<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/rodshouse.org\/resource-center-2\/\">drop-in support<\/a>, food, clothing, hygiene products and internet access at Rod\u2019s House. They can also receive <a href=\"https:\/\/rodshouse.org\/education-employment\/\">behavioral health services<\/a> \u2014 a new and expanding program at Rod\u2019s House \u2014 and basic medical care.<\/p>\n<p>Shelters are located at <a href=\"https:\/\/rodshouse.org\/hopecenteryak\/\">Hope Center<\/a> in Yakima and the <a href=\"https:\/\/rodshouse.org\/young-adult-emergency-shelter\/\">Young Adult Emergency Home<\/a> in Sunnyside.<\/p>\n","protected":false,"gt_translate_keys":[{"key":"rendered","format":"html"}]},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Rosa Garcia found Rod\u2019s House at 14, it was a safe place amid instability at home.
