Yet as temperatures climb, so can something else \u2014 our temper.<\/p>\n<p>Hot weather affects our bodies and our minds, potentially making us more irritable and less able to cope with stress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we\u2019re not properly hydrated or unable to get relief from the heat, our frustration tolerance tends to go down,\u201d says Mark Ingoldby, LICSW, a clinical social worker with the <a href=\"https:\/\/updates-www.mccdn.io\/services\/mental-behavioral-health\/\">MultiCare Behavioral Health Network<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019re less able to engage in problem-solving and may get angry more easily.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/doi\/10.1126\/science.1235367\">Studies have shown connections<\/a> between heat and increases in conflict and aggression. And even if anger does not erupt in violence, it can affect your well-being and your relationships when unchecked.<\/p>\n<p>Find out what\u2019s really going on when we feel angry, and learn tips for managing this emotion.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The relationship between anger and anxiety<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We all lose our cool from time to time \u2014 anger is part of the vast spectrum of human emotion. But what you might not know is how closely <a href=\"https:\/\/updates-www.mccdn.io\/vitals\/anxiety-how-to-cope-and-when-to-get-help\/\">anger is connected to anxiety<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen someone\u2019s expressing anger, what they\u2019re really communicating is that they\u2019re anxious,\u201d says Ingoldby, who also serves as supervisor of the primary care behavioral health program with the MultiCare Behavioral Health Network.<\/p>\n<p>He continues, \u201cAnxiety has progressive symptoms \u2014 it can build and build until we become overwhelmed, logic and reasoning go out the window and we explode in anger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It may come as no surprise, then, that anger and anxiety share the same physiological symptoms, such as sweating, shortness of breath, heart palpitations and muscle tension.<\/p>\n<p>When we react with anger, we\u2019re likely to say and do things we later regret, damaging our relationships.
