Now is the perfect time to add child safety improvements to your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.wa.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/proclamations\/20-25%20Coronovirus%20Stay%20Safe-Stay%20Healthy%20%28tmp%29%20%28002%29.pdf\">stay home<\/a> to-do list.<\/p>\n<h3>If you have kids in the house, consider the following:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Read or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GIwS9-uPtS4#action=share\">watch<\/a> your car seat instruction manuals to make sure they are adjusted and installed right.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=z4RnY_jF7Uc#action=share\">Check <\/a>the fit of each child\u2019s bike helmet, which need continuous adjusting as kids grow.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybridge.org\/patients-visitors\/patient-family-support-services\/childhood-safety\/safety-information\/practice-water-safety\/\">Look<\/a> at the condition and weight limits of your life jacket. Kids should upgrade to the next size at 30, 50 and 90 pounds.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybridge.org\/patients-visitors\/patient-family-support-services\/childhood-safety\/safety-information\/practice-gun-safety\/\">Store<\/a> guns unloaded and in a gun safe or lock box.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.safekids.org\/fire\">Change<\/a> the batteries in your smoke alarm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>For children under age 5, add these to the list:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Don&#8217;t allow unstructured days to mess with your baby&#8217;s safe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Aw2bqgti3sE#action=share\">sleep routine.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Make sure everything that can and should be is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zSbZKaCew6k#action=share\">child-proofed<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.marybridge.org\/patients-visitors\/patient-family-support-services\/childhood-safety\/safety-information\/prevent-window-falls\/\">Prevent window falls<\/a> by keeping accessible windows closed, or open less than 4 inches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Families are feeling particularly vulnerable right now, and we know that supervising and homeschooling your kids while simultaneously trying to work remotely feels overwhelming. But it is more important than ever to give hospitals and clinics the time and space to focus on COVID-19, rather than a preventable injury.<\/p>\n<p>Keep washing your hands and observing social distance guidelines, and let&#8217;s channel our protective urges into steps we can take to stay safe while we have this extra time at home.
