The MultiCare Spokane Internal Medicine Residency offers academically rigorous, community-based training in the heart of the Inland Northwest. As the region’s referral center, Spokane provides exceptional breadth of pathology while preserving the close mentorship and continuity unique to community medicine. Our program is distinguished by outstanding general internal medicine training, longitudinal faculty coaching, and a commitment to developing physicians as clinical, organizational, and community leaders. Application Process
MultiCare Spokane Internal Medicine Residency (ACGME Accreditation ID 1405400002) participates in the NRMP and accepts applications exclusively through ERAS. Our program uses Thalamus for interview scheduling. Complete application deadlines and current dates are published annually through ERAS. We accept applications until September 30, 2026.
Eligibility Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited medical school within five years of application.
- If 1 or more years since graduation you must demonstrate meaningful ongoing clinical practice, such as a preliminary or transitional residency year or working under a clinical experience license
- International medical graduates must obtain ECFMG certification.
- Applicants may have one unsuccessful Step 1 attempt; a passing first attempt on Step 2 CK (or equivalent COMLEX requirements) MUST be available at application.
- The program does NOT sponsor visas nor do we offer observerships.
- Submit a complete ERAS application with all required supporting documents.

Personal Statement
The personal statement is one of the most important parts of your application. Academic performance tells us what you have accomplished; your personal statement helps us understand who you are, what motivates you, and why MultiCare Spokane is the right place for your residency training. We value authentic, reflective writing.
- Your journey into medicine and experiences that shaped your interest in Internal Medicine.
- Examples of working collaboratively, including times you contributed as both a leader and a teammate.
- An experience that changed how you think about medicine, patient care, or yourself.
- Your career aspirations and the community you hope to serve.
- Experiences that strengthened your understanding of the relationship between medicine, community, and health.
- Why MultiCare Spokane is an excellent fit for your goals. Please dedicate at least one paragraph specifically to our program.
Letters of Recommendation
In addition to your Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE), we request three additional letters of recommendation. One letter should be an Internal Medicine Department letter. The other two letters should be from faculty members who know you well through direct clinical observation.
One letter should be from a faculty member who supervised you during your core Internal Medicine clerkship. The second should come from another meaningful clinical experience that provides additional perspective on your development as a physician.
A fourth letter is welcome if it offers unique insight into your personal or professional growth.
The most helpful letters move beyond describing your clinical performance and provide specific examples of the qualities that will help you succeed in residency. We particularly value letters that speak to an applicant’s:
- Intellectual curiosity and commitment to learning
- Clinical reasoning and sound judgment
- Compassion, professionalism, and integrity
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams
- Contributions as both a collaborative team member and an emerging leader

We encourage applicants to choose letter writers who know them well and can provide thoughtful, specific examples rather than general endorsements.
