Advocacy & Community

At the heart of our commitment to advocacy and community is the belief that excellent internal medicine physicians are not only skilled clinicians, but also thoughtful leaders, collaborators, and stewards of the health of the communities they serve. Our program prepares residents to understand the broader social, structural, and policy forces that shape health and healthcare delivery, while cultivating the skills needed to advocate effectively for patients, colleagues, and the profession. Through community engagement, health equity initiatives, interdisciplinary teamwork, and exposure to systems-based practice and physician leadership, residents learn to care for diverse and vulnerable populations with humility, compassion, and social accountability. We view advocacy not as a separate activity from medicine, but as a core responsibility of modern internal medicine practice.
