Salary

The present salary range is shown below and is revised annually (2023-2024) to maintain equity with the UW FMRN programs:

  • R-1 $66,908
  • R-2 $69,221
  • R-3 $71,766

Vacation/Sick/Holiday

There are 17 days of annual leave, 12 days of sick leave and 6 Multicare holidays in each year of residency. Third year residents also receive up to 5 days of paid “practice search” time.

CME

Educational leave, along with financial support for continuing medical education is also provided: R1s have 3 days of CME, R2s and R3s have 5 days for use as CME.

Each resident is required to participate in practice management and certification courses. The residency program funds tuition for these courses. Up to $1,000 of Resident’s CME allowance may be used for purchase of a non-phone electronic device (e.g. iPad, laptop, etc.) once during the Term. This must be purchased after starting employment. In addition, residents are encouraged to become involved with organized medical societies, membership dues can also be paid with CME funds.

Certifications

TFM recognizes the importance of providing the resident with tools necessary to manage a wide variety of emergencies. Certifications obtained include ACLS, ALSO, BLS, NRP, PALS and STABLE. ATLS can be arranged using CME funds.

Meals

All meals are provided to residents while assigned to in-house/hospital duty for residency related responsibilities via a predetermined floating meal stiped balance based on call points and inpatient rotations. This will be calculated for all residents at the beginning of each year. Funds are received bi-annually via direct deposit and are used at the discretion of the resident.

Other

Two white clinic coats are provided for each resident.

Housing

Residents are responsible for their own housing except when on call. Residents on call are provided with call rooms in the hospital. Apartments and houses are available in a variety of settings and price ranges within a reasonable distance from the hospitals and the Residency Clinic.

Residents are required to locate housing within a 20-minute travel radius of the facilities at Tacoma General and Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital. Since several training facilities are utilized in the greater Tacoma area, automobile transportation is a necessity.

Malpractice Coverage / Medical-Dental Coverage

Professional liability insurance (occurrence type with no need to purchase “tail” coverage) is provided for all residents through the MultiCare Health System. In addition, a comprehensive medical/dental insurance plan, as well as group life and disability insurance, is provided for residents and their dependents.
