Inpatient Medicine Call and Nights

  • TFM residents do not take 24 hour call on inpatient medicine. “On call” residents take admissions later in the day.
  • All residents on the Inpatient Pediatrics Service (IPS) or Family Medicine Inpatient (FMI) team take turns being the on-call resident.
    • On call seniors (R2s and R3s) triage admissions from the Emergency Room and assist interns with admissions
    • On call interns receive late admissions
    • There is an assigned “on-call” intern and senior every day of the week
  • We have Night Float residents (R2s and R3s) who manage cross-cover questions and admissions from 5pm-6am. There is also a Swing resident (R2s and R3s) who helps with admissions from 5pm – 11pm.
  • Interns only work nights during their OB rotations. All inpatient medicine night float and swing shifts are covered by R3s at the beginning of the year, then R2s by the end of the year.
