MultiCare and MultiCare Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital teamed up this year to sponsor 20 youth teams for Spokane’s annual Hoopfest basketball tournament.

As the official medical provider of Hoopfest since 2017, MultiCare is proud to care for the thousands of players and spectators who fill the streets of downtown Spokane each year for the world’s largest three-on-three basketball tournament.

This year, we took that dedication to physical activity and community even further and teamed up with MultiCare Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital to sponsor 20 teams of elementary and middle school students playing in the weekend-long tournament.

Thanks to the partnership of the Northeast Community Center, Friends of Rogers and Communities in Schools of Spokane County, 20 teams were selected from some of Spokane’s lowest-income schools. For many of these students, this was their first time playing in the tournament or on an extracurricular team.

At MultiCare, we believe everyone should have access to the tools they need to live a healthy life, and that starts with building healthy habits in youth. One of the easiest ways to do that is through sports and team activities that teach the importance of staying physically active and working as a team.

Whether playing on a team for the first time or working toward becoming a professional basketball player, we hope these students walk away with a better understanding of the fun and excitement that can come with physical activity.
