MultiCare DAISY Award program recognizes excellence in nursing

Just in time for National Nurses Week, MultiCare is implementing the DAISY Award program to honor extraordinary nurses, as nominated by patients, patients’ families and colleagues.

The DAISY Award program began in 1999 and rewards remarkable care, clinical skills and extraordinary compassion in nursing. It’s given to outstanding licensed nursing professionals in more than 2,000 health care facilities worldwide.

“The core of this award is celebrating the professionalism and compassion of nurses,” says Linda Dean, Chief Nurse Executive. “Our nurses give of themselves daily and the nurse executive team wants to recognize their professionalism and compassion in caring for our patients.”

Alicia Hulse, RN, a MultiCare Good Samaritan Emergency Department nurse, received the first DAISY Award for 2018 on May 4. Hulse has worked at MultiCare since 2012.

Other DAISY Award nominees were Courtney Thompson, RN, Transition Observation Unit, and Emilie Carroll, RN, Cardiac Care Unit, Pulse Heart Institute.

Winners of the DAISY award are recognized with an award ceremony, an award certificate, “A Healer’s Touch” statue carved by the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe, a DAISY pin for their badge and a congratulations banner for their unit.

Patients, patients’ family members and colleagues may nominate any member of the MultiCare nursing staff for the award. The awards are presented quarterly and nomination forms are available at MultiCare hospitals in the Puget Sound region.

DAISY is an acronym for diseases attacking the immune system, in honor of Patrick Barnes, who died of an auto-immune disease and whose family founded The DAISY Foundation.

MultiCare anticipates launching the DAISY Award for the Inland Northwest region in 2019.
