Bringing down high blood pressure in Yakima
High blood pressure (also known as hypertension) is known as the “silent killer” because in many cases, you don’t know there’s a problem until more serious complications occur — such as a heart attack or stroke.
In addition to regular visits with your primary care provider and maintaining a balanced diet and lifestyle, at-home blood pressure monitoring could be your key to preventing damage. But for many people, that’s easier said than done.
Maybe you didn’t know at-home monitoring was an option, or that you could even be at risk for high blood pressure. Or, like many others, you don’t understand what the numbers mean for your health.
For some, the cost or challenges to access could be a barrier to the benefits of monitoring blood pressure.
MultiCare, the American Heart Association and the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic are on a mission to break down some of these barriers by providing education and at-home monitors to some of the region’s most at-risk patients.
