At 208 pounds, Aberdeen resident Robbie Myers decided to make a change to better her health. She had heard about weight loss surgery talks at MultiCare, so she attended to find out more.

Myers then went through the pre-op process of meeting with a psychologist and nutritionist and did some bloodwork testing.

“There’s a lot of prep before the surgery,” says Myers. “Plenty of time to think about it and know what you’re getting into.”

She had gastric bypass surgery on June 29, 2016. Post-surgery, Myers dropped 90 pounds, going from a size 16/18 to a 2.

Although clothes shopping is fun again, she says the weight loss was more of a perk — she really did it for medical reasons.

“My blood pressure is great, liver is great, no more GERD,” she says. “My knees and hips feel so much better. I don’t wake up in pain.”

She recently had her one-year checkup, and all of her bloodwork tests came back at normal levels.

Her advice is to do as much research as possible.

“It totally changes your life,” she says. “You need a good support system. And ask a lot of questions.”

The benefits of living a healthier life means Myers has more energy to spend time and have fun with her kids and six grandkids.

For Robbie, age is just a number.

“I’ll be 60 this year,” she says. “But I don’t look it. I don’t act it. This is the healthiest I’ve been in a long time.”
