Watch: What’s happening with COVID-19 vaccines?

January 22, 2021 | By MultiCare Health System
On Monday, Jan. 18, the state of Washington expanded vaccine eligibility to Phase 1B, tier 1, which includes everyone aged 65 years or older, as well as to those who are 50 and older who live in multi-generational households and meet some additional criteria. This is in addition to those individuals in Phase 1A, who continue to be eligible to get vaccinated, if they haven’t already.

Since then, tens of thousands of appointment requests and phone calls from individuals hoping to schedule their vaccine have been coming in daily to MultiCare, as well as to other health systems around Washington.

We understand that people are eager to get their COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible and are frustrated at the delays in getting an appointment.

In the video below, Michael Myint, MD, infectious disease specialist and epidemiologist at MultiCare, talks about who is currently eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine and what some of the current challenges are in getting vaccines to those who want it.

As Dr. Myint says, there will be enough vaccine for everyone. MultiCare is actively working with county and state officials to create mass vaccination opportunities beyond our current locations and with additional vaccine supply. We will share those details as they are confirmed. We remain committed to providing this important vaccine for our patients and communities as quickly and safely as possible.

In the meantime, our COVID-19 vaccine page is your best source for updated information.
