2nd Cycle: Using bikes as a tool for change

May 23, 2025 | By Samantha Malott

At 2nd Cycle, bikes are more than a mode of transportation or a fun afternoon activity — they’re a tool for change.

As a community cycling center, 2nd Cycle offers everything from bike repairs and parts to riding and safety courses, as well as the education and confidence to care for your own bike. Through their wide range of programs, 2nd Cycle aims to demystify the bike and improve access to transportation and well-being.

Located in Tacoma’s Hilltop neighborhood, 2nd Cycle is dedicated to getting local youth on bikes and building a safe and healthy passion to last a lifetime. Programs like Major Taylor Project, Urban Riding Camps and Earn a Bike provide options for children and families to find the right fit.

“Partnering for healing and a healthy future” is MultiCare’s mission, and it inspires us to form connections that help improve the quality of life for our communities. Community organizations all around us are doing amazing work, and we’re inspired and excited to support that work.

Stories from our Community is an ongoing series conceived to dive into some of these organizations*, bring their stories to life and spread the word about how they are making our communities better.

*Some of the organizations profiled in this series are recipients of MultiCare’s Community Partnership Fund, which awards funds to nonprofit organizations working on initiatives, programs and projects that improve our community.
