Before You Volunteer: Things to Consider
- MultiCare expects that volunteers will complete and exceed the minimum commitment of 100 hours. For those volunteering at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, a minimum commitment of 125 hours is required. This typically requires volunteers to dedicate approximately four hours per week over a period of six to eight months.
- Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to apply. For emergency departments and other critical care areas, the minimum age is 18.
- The onboarding process for new volunteers can take 4-5 weeks. We follow a very detailed process to ensure a safe and healthy environment for you, our patients and our visitors.
- MultiCare will conduct a criminal background check on all volunteer applicants.
- Volunteers will honor MultiCare’s values of Respect, Integrity, Stewardship, Excellence, Collaboration, Kindness and Joy.
- Consider your personal motivation, availability, emotional preparedness, and physical abilities before volunteering.
- Volunteers cannot use a clinical license for any volunteer position.
- MultiCare cannot accommodate court ordered volunteer hours.
- Job shadows are only available to current volunteers with at least 60 hours of service. See Job Shadows page for more information.
