Before You Volunteer: Things to Consider

  1. MultiCare expects that volunteers will complete and exceed the minimum commitment of 100 hours. For those volunteering at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, a minimum commitment of 125 hours is required. This typically requires volunteers to dedicate approximately four hours per week over a period of six to eight months.
  2. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to apply. For emergency departments and other critical care areas, the minimum age is 18.
  3. The onboarding process for new volunteers can take 4-5 weeks. We follow a very detailed process to ensure a safe and healthy environment for you, our patients and our visitors.
  4. MultiCare will conduct a criminal background check on all volunteer applicants.
  5. Volunteers will honor MultiCare’s values of Respect, Integrity, Stewardship, Excellence, Collaboration, Kindness and Joy.
  6. Consider your personal motivation, availability, emotional preparedness, and physical abilities before volunteering.
  7. Volunteers cannot use a clinical license for any volunteer position.
  8. MultiCare cannot accommodate court ordered volunteer hours.
  9. Job shadows are only available to current volunteers with at least 60 hours of service. See Job Shadows page for more information.
