MultiCare restructures senior leadership to serve changing needs of community

TACOMA, Wash. — MultiCare Health System has named Florence Chang its new president. Chang, who has served as MultiCare’s executive vice president and chief operating officer since 2012, will now oversee MultiCare’s entire health care delivery system including 11 hospitals, more than 200 clinics and statewide networks of behavior health services, urgent care centers and neighborhood emergency departments.

In her new position, she will focus on improving and expanding clinical operations and aligning health care delivery across its hospitals, clinics and medical practices.

“Florence is a dedicated, creative leader who cares deeply about delivering ever better care to the communities we serve,” said Bill Robertson, MultiCare’s chief executive officer. “In her time with MultiCare, she has helped expand the services we offer to address the wide-ranging health needs in the Pacific Northwest. Her leadership is crucial to the bright future we are building for the organization.”

Robertson remains MultiCare’s chief executive officer. Previously he held both titles of president and CEO.

The health care needs in Washington and beyond have grown immensely over the last decade, and MultiCare has grown in turn to meet those needs.

“Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the pace of change in health care was increasing,” Chang said. “The last two years have done little to slow that pace, even as they posed unique challenges that — while often difficult — have been a catalyst for us to look at nearly every aspect of how MultiCare operates.”

Chang joined MultiCare in 2006 after coming from Dearborn Advisors, LLC, where she served as senior vice president and partner, focused on clinician adoption on Electronic Health Record implementation and healthcare IT strategy. Prior to Dearborn Advisor, she served for 20 years in various leadership roles in clinical operations and information technology at Kaiser Permanente. She received her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from California State University and holds an MBA from Pepperdine University.
