Description:

This course is designed for OTs, PTs, COTAs, PTAs and SLPs who have taken one or more introductory course in using the NDT practice model for treatment of children or adults. This course is designed for therapists who want to improve their critical think, treatment planning, handling skills, and confidence for treatment of children with neuromuscular disorders using the NDT practice model.  This course will be very movement focus with emphasis on movement sessions with other participants, as well as case presentations and problem-solving sessions with children.

Objectives:

  • Increase understanding of the various components for movement and posture to support more typical motor development.
  • Gain understanding of how posture and movement can limit typical for children with neuromuscular disorders.
  • Develop improved clinical problem-solving skills and enhanced treatment plans for children with various diagnosis and presentation for movement disorders.
  • Increase tool bag for treatment handling ideas and skills for advancing postural alignment and motor skill development for children with various diagnosis and presentation for movement disorders.

Brett Nirider, PT, C/NDT, Sara Kerrick, PT, PCS, C/NDT

Sara Kerrick, PT, has been a physical therapist for 41.5 years.  She is Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy and Neurodevelopmental Treatment certified (C/NDT).  She has worked at Mary Bridge Children’s Therapy Services for the last 36.5 years. Sara graduated from the PT program at Northern Arizona University and has her masters in pediatric rehabilitation with an emphasis on pediatric physical therapy from University of Washington. Sara has an interest in teaching her peers and has taught courses related to neurodevelopmental treatment and use of pediatric outcome measures.  She has a vested interest in evidence-based practice based on her experience as a clinician for over 41 years and her on going love of research and trying to make sense of current scientific evidence as it relates to clinical practice.

Brett Nirider, PT, is a physical therapist at Mary Bridge Children’s Therapy Puyallup with more than 40 years of pediatric experience. He has had training and experience in both NDT and sensory integration and has taught the eight-week pediatric NDT course, as well as assisted with the NDT baby treatment course. He particularly enjoys instructing therapists who have limited experience or exposure to NDT.
