MultiCare signs agreement to acquire ownership interest in Capital Medical Center

MultiCare Capital Medical Center

MultiCare Health System today announced it has reached an agreement with an affiliate of LifePoint Health to acquire an ownership interest in Capital Medical Center in Olympia. This transaction will expand MultiCare’s ability to meet the health and health care needs of the people and communities in the South Puget Sound region and more broadly in the Pacific Northwest.

“Capital Medical Center is an important part of the Thurston County community, and we are looking forward to working with the employees and providers in the area to improve the health of the South Sound region,” said Bill Robertson, President and CEO of MultiCare Health System. “MultiCare has been in Thurston County for 30 years and adding Capital Medical Center to our family is the natural next step in our journey to expand access to care and services. Together, we will contribute to the health and vitality of the community in Thurston County and across Washington state.”

Capital Medical Center is a 107-bed community hospital that opened in 1985 and serves communities in Olympia, as well as Thurston, Mason, Lewis, and Grays Harbor counties. Once the transaction is complete, it will become part of MultiCare, which includes nine adult hospitals, one children’s hospital, and a robust network of community-based primary, specialty and urgent care facilities. The hospital will be renamed MultiCare Capital Medical Center.

“MultiCare is a growing regional system that shares our team’s commitment to providing high quality care close to home,” said Mark Turner, FACHE, chief executive officer of Capital Medical Center.  “Strong, regional networks are vital in today’s healthcare landscape, and we are excited about the prospect of becoming part of the MultiCare family. Together with the MultiCare team, we have great opportunities to ensure additional access to important medical services and further advance the delivery of care across our region.”

The transition of the ownership interest from LifePoint to MultiCare will be seamless for Capital Medical Center patients and staff.  There should be no disruptions to care, and patients will continue to access services from the Capital Medical Center providers they know and trust.

MultiCare operates 18 clinics in Thurston County including multispecialty clinics, Indigo Urgent Care centers and Mary Bridge Children’s clinics.

This transaction is subject to routine regulatory notices as well as customary closing conditions.
