Maternal-Fetal Medicine

Advanced care for high-risk pregnancies

Maternal-fetal medicine specialists are OB/GYNs with additional fellowship training and experience in the care of high-risk pregnancies. They work closely with your primary health care provider to offer consultation and care throughout your entire pregnancy, including delivery and postpartum recovery.

What is a high-risk pregnancy?

A pregnancy is considered high risk when the health of the patient or well-being of the unborn baby is a concern. There are many factors that may complicate a pregnancy, including the pregnant person’s age, the presence of chronic medical conditions or abnormalities in the growth and development of the fetus.

Our specialized services include:

  • Management of complicated pregnancies
  • Management of multiple pregnancy (twins or triplets, for example)
  • Management of maternal medical complications such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiac disease, seizure disorders or thyroid disease
  • Access to board-certified and licensed genetic counselors
  • Diagnostic fetal ultrasound services provided by maternal-fetal medicine sonographers and accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine
  • Counseling on a full range of prenatal risk screenings and diagnostic services, beginning in the first trimester
