Offering support, education and assistance
How you feed your baby is a personal choice, and we will support you whether you choose to breastfeed, bottle feed or do a combination of both. Our providers will answer your questions and help you make a well-informed decision.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding as the ideal method for infant feeding. While breastfeeding has many benefits for both babies and mothers, it can also be challenging. If you would like to pursue breastfeeding, we’ll help you master the basics, gain confidence and support your long-term success.
How we help
After delivery, your nurse will help with basic breastfeeding. Our international board-certified lactation consultants are also available to provide breastfeeding support throughout your hospital stay at our birth centers and after you return home.
These consultants are specially trained to:
- Offer guidance about newborn positioning and latch
- Help you maintain milk supply when separated from your baby
- Provide specialized help for premature infants
- Treat slow or poor infant weight gain
- Alleviate sore nipples and engorgement
- Help with low milk supply and supplemental nutrition
- Assist reluctant or difficult nursers
- Treat flat or inverted nipples, plugged ducts or mastitis
- Educate families about breast pumps, milk expression and milk storage
- Facilitate weaning or re-lactation (helping the body to produce milk again after a gap in breastfeeding)
- Help families breastfeed multiple children
