MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital earned a spot on the 2017-2018 U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospital” list within the state of Washington, tying for 6th in the Seattle metro area and 8th in the state on a list released Aug. 8.
Good Samaritan received the highest ratings possible for treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, knee replacement and heart failure.
“As a team we are thrilled to see Good Samaritan recognized at such a high level,” said Chris Bredeson, MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital President and Chief Operating Officer. “We work hard every day to provide the best care possible for the residents of East Pierce County and this is a great validation of our efforts and the quality of services we provide.”
The U.S. News Best Hospitals analysis evaluates data on nearly 5,000 hospitals in 16 adult specialties, nine adult procedures and conditions and 10 pediatric specialties. It includes hospitals’ performance in clinical specialties, procedures and conditions. Scores are based on several factors, including survival, patient safety, nurse staffing and more.
According to U.S. News & World Report, the primary intent is to identify hospitals that perform well across a range of specialties, conditions and procedures. Hospitals that do well in multiple areas of adult care may be ranked in their state and metropolitan areas.
“Covering nearly every hospital in every U.S. community, U.S. News offers deep, rich data that patients can use to help them make informed decisions about where to receive surgical or medical care,” Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News, said in a media release announcing this year’s list.
