Statement: Expansion of hospitalist program partnership with Sound Physicians

MultiCare Health System announced that it will expand its hospitalist program partnership with Sound Physicians to create a region-wide, cohesive group of providers working together to improve the health of our communities.

Over the last year, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of regional coordination among hospitalist teams, the providers who take care of hospitalized patients. Partnering with Sound Physicians, a Tacoma-based organization that provides services nationally, will help ensure efficient management of inpatient populations as a region instead of at the individual hospital level and will allow MultiCare to implement standard tools, processes and regionwide best practices.

This partnership also will help MultiCare advance its work in population health, which is a top priority for the organization. In population health care we look at groups of patients with similar health needs in order to understand and identify the best ways to care for those patients. In our hospitals, improving the health of our inpatient populations requires strong regional coordination among our hospitalist teams.

MultiCare has determined that it needs a strategic partner in hospital medicine that has a proven track record in the population health space.

Sound Physicians currently provides hospitalist services at MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital. The hospitalist programs at Tacoma General Hospital, Allenmore Hospital and Covington Medical Center will transition to Sound Physicians. This change is anticipated to take effect on April 5, 2021. The health system also is exploring the possibility of expanding this partnership to include Auburn Medical Center.

Sound Physicians is nationally recognized for providing exceptional practice-based hospitalist services and provides hospitalists with robust continuing education programs, strong physician leadership pathways and a nationwide network of peers.

The partnership with Sound Physicians will support the health care innovation needed at MultiCare for the future of patient care, and Sound Physician’s health care system integration will provide even more seamless experiences for patients and families. This partnership will continue the good work happening at Tacoma General Hospital, Allenmore Hospital and Covington Medical Center.

MultiCare – together with Sound Physicians – remains committed to providing the care our community needs and the experience our communities expect from us at this critical time.
