First COVID-19 related death at MultiCare

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of a patient in our care due to complications from COVID-19 infection. The patient, a woman in her 50s with underlying health conditions, was admitted to MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital March 6, and died the evening of March 17.

We would like to extend our sincerest condolences to her family and loved ones and our deep gratitude to the caregivers who worked tirelessly to care for this patient, and who will continue to do so for other patients who need our help.

More COVID-19 patients will be coming to our hospitals and other health care facilities and we will continue to do all we can to treat them. This is a challenging time, but we’ll continue to seek guidance from best evidence practices, our health department partners, CDC and WHO. We’ll continue to do all that we can to secure the equipment and supplies we need to care for our patients and keep our employees safe. We’ll continue to update protocols and guidance to address this ever-evolving situation to help ensure we are acting on the most current information, and the most accurate evidence-based practices.

We are deeply saddened by this loss and share the public’s concern about COVID-19’s continued impact on the communities where we live and work.

Thank you for trusting us as your community health partner. We appreciate your support as we work to reduce the impact of this outbreak.
