Strategies for Successful Breastfeeding (Yakima)
We understand that deciding whether or not to breastfeed is a very personal choice. If you decide to breastfeed, our instructors, who are international board-certified lactation consultants, are dedicated to ensuring that you gain the confidence and skill to begin and continue breastfeeding your child.
Like any new skill, breastfeeding takes knowledge and practice to be successful. In this class, you’ll get information on the benefits of breastfeeding and practical tips on how to breastfeed effectively, including:
- Latching and positioning techniques
- How to recognize hunger cues
- Overcoming common challenges, such as engorgement, plugged ducts and nipple pain
- Pumping strategies for returning to work
- Use of pacifiers
Your support person is welcome to attend, but only one registration is needed.
Newborn education classes are not covered by Medicaid, but scholarships are available upon request. There is no additional charge for your support person.
