The emergency and trauma team at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital is available around the clock to care for you and your loved ones. Our comprehensive services include life-saving emergency treatments, acute care surgery and specialized trauma care.
At MultiCare Tacoma General Emergency Department, you’ll find:

- Surgeons who are double board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, with trauma fellowship training

Conditions we treat
Our emergency and trauma team is ready 24/7 to treat serious and life-threatening conditions with speed, skill and compassion. We provide expert care for conditions such as (but not limited to):
- Allergic reactions
- Asthma or difficulty breathing
- Broken bones and dislocated joints
- Burns
- Deep cuts or uncontrolled bleeding
- Emergency acute care surgeries for appendicitis, gallbladder disease, diverticulitis, hernias, stomach and intestinal bleeding, blockage, soft tissue infections, among others
- Head injuries, including trauma to the neck or spine, or loss of consciousness
- Heart attacks and chest pain
- Seizures
- Severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting
- Stroke

In partnership with Cascade Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, we offer the full spectrum of trauma care including:
- Advanced imaging
- Cardiothoracic surgery
- Chest wall reconstruction, rib fixation
- Facial/ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery
- Interventional radiology
- Neurosurgery
- Orthopedic surgery, specializing in complex pelvic fractures and limb injuries
- Plastic surgery, providing expertise in facial trauma
- Spine surgery, performing complex spinal surgeries and repairs
- Vascular surgery, including complex revascularization of compromised limbs and vascular bypass
In addition, our trauma team collaborates with local emergency medical services (EMS) and health care provider communities by providing:

A blood administration program that provides blood for field administration to hemorrhaging patients
- A direct “offline” discussion for medics with a trauma provider (email or phone call)
- Prehospital trauma life support training for EMS
- Advanced trauma life support courses for regional health care providers
- An EMS shadow program (coming fall 2025)

Mary Bridge Children’s serves as the state-designated Level II Pediatric Trauma Center for Western Washington to treat severe and life-threatening injuries. Our board-certified pediatric emergency physicians are here for your family 24 hours a day.
