TACOMA, Wash. — The American College of Emergency Physicians has awarded MultiCare Allenmore Hospital with a bronze-level, three-year Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation.
This accreditation recognizes Allenmore for elevating the level of care for seniors. Allenmore is one of only two hospitals in Washington and the only non-military hospital in the state to be awarded. There are fewer than 300 facilities in the world with this accreditation.
Benefits of this accreditation for patients include:
- Staff training and education focused on geriatric emergency medicine
- Access to mobility aids such as canes and walkers
- Coordinating care with other departments such as physical therapy and occupational therapy
- Geriatric emergency care initiatives, policies and procedures
- Easy access to food and drink 24 hours a day, seven days a week
According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 40 percent of emergency department visits are from people aged 60 and older. By providing dedicated resources focusing on geriatric care, Allenmore is improving the level of care for older adults.
