Fundamentals of Critical Care Support Course

Three years of impact

In August 2025, MultiCare celebrated three years as an approved site of the fundamentals of critical care support (FCCS) course. Brought to the system in 2022, FCCS offers two days of hands-on education designed to help non-intensivist clinicians strengthen their skills in caring for critically ill patients.

Since becoming an approved site, MultiCare has offered four classes each year in the Puget Sound region and two in the Inland Northwest, training nurses, respiratory therapists and advanced practice registered nurses from a variety of specialties. Participants earn continuing education credits.

Many participants report leaving the course feeling better prepared and more confident in caring for high-acuity patients. Providers in the intensive care units have also noted improvements in nursing knowledge and critical thinking skills.

FCCS has become a valuable pathway for professional development across the system. It is supported by subject matter experts and accessible via online modules. The course continues to help nurses build the skills needed to care for our most vulnerable patients.
