Several years ago, I became intrigued with the Anterior Approach for Total Hip Replacement. Chip Routt, MD first taught me the technique in the context of hip fracture management at Harborview Medical Center and I have since committed myself to developing its use for hip replacement. I sought out training from Dr. Joel Matta, one of the pioneers in anterior approach hip replacement in the United States and other senior surgeons in the region to develop my technique. I have been impressed with my results and I believe it allows for accurate reconstruction of the arthritic or fractured hip, and minimizes the recovery time for hip replacement patients compared to more commonly used techniques.
I also employ minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques for rotator cuff repair, non-replacement shoulder reconstruction, ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair in the knee, I and perform open(realignment) osteotomies about the knee and knee replacement surgery.
Lastly, I still enjoy treating fractures and continue to find that well performed fracture surgery can lead to predictable restoration of anatomy and function, particularly for fractures about the shoulder, wrist, and knee where treatment of the most challenging fractures is often relegated to arthroplasty.
