Adult Developmental Clinic

The Adult Developmental Clinic opened in 2018 to provide comprehensive, multi-specialty support for teens and adults who experience developmental disabilities. Moving from pediatric to adult care can be challenging for teens, as well as their families. Our nationally unique model assists individuals with this transition by providing a comprehensive evaluation and direct connections to adult medical care, and offers ongoing support throughout adult life. We work closely with patients, their families or support persons, and their primary care physicians to provide better coordinated, lifelong primary and specialty care.

Your initial evaluation may include visits with:

• Physical medicine & rehabilitation to assess your functional/habilitative needs
• Speech therapy to review any communication and/or eating concerns
• Psychiatry for those needing diagnostic or medication management support
• Care management
• Staff from the Pierce County Coalition for Developmental Disabilities to address other support needs such as decision making support, employment, personal care, state services, and so on.

Your appointment will end with a wrap up-with our clinic director and a summary of your visit.

A comprehensive care plan is developed for you, and sent to you, your family and your primary care provider. Adult specialty care recommendations will be made as needed if they are not already established. Your care plan will be readily available in our electronic medical record to help ensure your care is coordinated among all your providers.

Our clinic can also help you find a new adult primary care provider close to your home who can address most of your medical needs, if you don’t already have one.
