Student Health Services

MultiCare Rockwood Clinic offers convenient primary and urgent care for Eastern Washington University students.

The health and wellness program at MultiCare Rockwood Clinic provides medical care to eligible Eastern Washington University students. Students may see a provider for a variety of health services, including routine check-ups, urgent care, immunizations and STD/STI care. Learn more about student health services on the EWU website.

To make an appointment at MultiCare Rockwood Clinic – Cheney, call 509-235-6151. The clinic is located just steps from campus on 7th St between Elm St and Cedar St, behind Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Students may also visit other MultiCare Rockwood Clinic primary care locations, as well as urgent care.

      • Note: A referral to any facility will be the student’s responsibility, as coverage does not include emergency room, ambulance, specialty care or hospital services.

How to access health services

Identify yourself as an Eastern Washington University student currently eligible for the health services when scheduling an appointment. Students eligible for health services must present their Eastern Washington University identification card at the time of their visit to any MultiCare Rockwood Clinic primary or urgent care clinic.

It is your responsibility to review and understand your coverage.* Some insurance plans have deductibles and copays that need to be met. Please contact the Rockwood Clinic location nearest you or the customer service department of your health insurance plan to discuss the status of your personal health insurance

Eastern Washington University student health services will not pay for emergency department or hospital visits. Any care received out of the MultiCare Rockwood Clinic system is the responsibility of the student. Students are responsible for any outstanding charges that are not covered under the Eastern Washington University student health plan.

*Please note: MultiCare Rockwood Clinic can bill private insurance for expenses that are not covered under the student health plan. However, we may not be able to bill some insurances, or your health insurance provider may not allow you to be seen by a MultiCare Rockwood Clinic provider.

Students registered for six (6) or more credits

  • Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to receive clinical services through MultiCare Rockwood Clinic in Spokane County each quarter (fall, winter and spring) in which they are registered for six (6) or more credits.
  • MultiCare Rockwood Clinic provides a basic level of ambulatory health care services at any Rockwood Clinic family medicine, internal medicine or urgent care location according to each site’s usual and customary practice.

Students registered less than six (6) credits

Students taking less than six credits can request voluntary participation at any Eastern Washington University financial services office. Request and payment must be received by the tenth day of each quarter.

  • Summer coverage is voluntary, even if you’re taking summer classes.
  • These services are not included as part of summer tuition and fees.
  • Students requesting services must be registered for summer classes, or be a continuing student in the fall quarter.
  • The health fee must be paid during the summer open enrollment up to the tenth day of the first session.

Quarter students

  • Fall quarter: Student health service coverage begins the first Monday prior to the start of fall classes and ends the day before a new quarter begins.
  • Winter and spring quarters: Coverage begins on the first day of class.

Semester students

  • Semester term: Coverage begins the first day of classes and the last day of classes or graduation.

Additional information

  • Summer quarter: If opted in, summer quarter coverage begins the first day of the first session (see “Eligibility” section).
  • There is no lapse in coverage for continuing students during winter break or spring break.
  • Please check clinic hours for holiday and weekend availability.

Services covered

Covers time with a MultiCare Rockwood Clinic Primary Care* medical provider only. Does not include behavioral health or physical therapy:

  • Quarter students: One (1) clinic visit per quarter
  • Semester students: Two (2) clinic visits per semester

*A primary care provider (PCP) is an MD, DO, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or other physician licensed to practice family medicine. This does not include visits to medical specialists such as gynecology, orthopedics, dermatology, endocrinology, pediatrics, behavioral health, physical therapy, etc.

  • Chlamydia urine test
  • Complete blood count (CBC) with differential
  • Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP)
  • Gonorrhea urine test
  • Hepatitis B titer
  • Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) test
  • Human papillomavirus (HPV) screening through pap smear
  • Influenza A and influenza B screening
  • Measles, mumps and rubella titer
  • Point of care urinalysis
  • Pregnancy urine test
  • QuantiFERON gold tuberculosis test or purified protein derivative (PPD) tuberculosis skin test
  • Strep throat screening
  • Urine culture
  • Varicella titer

All other services not explicitly listed above are not covered. Students may receive other services not covered by their student health plan. These services will be billed to their private insurance (if applicable) or will be billed directly to the student. Students who do not have additional coverage will be eligible for a 40% cash pay discount.

Additional exceptions include:

  • Indigo Urgent Care Clinic locations are not included with the comprehensive health and wellness program fee. Any care or services provided through Indigo Urgent Care is the responsibility of the student.
  • MultiCare Rockwood Clinic’s student health clinic services are not available outside of Spokane county.
  • Running start students are not eligible for comprehensive health and wellness program or any services included in the fee.
  • Eastern Washington University student health services will not pay for any emergency room or hospital visits. Any care received outside of the MultiCare Rockwood Clinic system is at the responsibility of the student.

Examples of services that are not covered

  • Care from a specialist, or a non-MultiCare Rockwood Clinic health care provider, or any medical facility other than MultiCare Rockwood Primary Care, unless specifically contracted.
  • Hospitalization, emergency department visits, ancillary hospital services and medical transport.
  • All major or complicated trauma or surgery, as classified by the attending provider, or beyond the scope of the facility’s usual practices.
  • Complicated procedures as determined by the attending provider. or those requiring specialty care IV medications, materials or additional IV for more than one hour, solutions and set up materials for pathology, cytology or associated laboratory services.
  • All medical imaging services.
  • Behavioral health services.
  • Physical therapy services.
  • Materials associated with office visits.
  • Contraceptive medication, devices, insertion, or removal of contraceptive devices.
  • Obstetrical care.
  • Colposcopy.
  • Complications resulting from pregnancy.
  • Visits to a gynecologist or reproductive specialist.
  • Cervical cryotherapy.
  • Acute rape counseling.
  • Cytology follow-up for abnormal pap tests.
  • Infertility treatment.
  • Treatment for HIV, syphilis, or herpes.
  • Pelvic ultrasound or imaging other than basic X-ray.
  • Nutritional services not provided by a primary care provider.
  • Comprehensive physicals as required through sports, study abroad, employment, department of transportation, reserve officers training corps, internship, Peace Corps, etc.
  • Labor and industry claims or any employment related injuries or conditions.
  • Vision and dental care.
  • Ambulance services.
  • Chemical dependency or substance abuse treatment.
  • Alternative health care.
  • Chronic pain management.
  • Rape test kit (MultiCare Deaconess Hospital is recommended).
  • Emergency room, hospitalization, or surgery.
