Diabetes Prevention Program

Diabetes Prevention Program

The National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is an evidence-based program for people who are at high risk for developing Type 2 Diabetes. Those at high risk include people who have prediabetes or borderline diabetes, gestational diabetes, family members with diabetes, overweight adults, and high blood pressure. The program’s main goal is to help people reduce their risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes.

During the program, you will:

  • Participate in group discussions around healthy eating habits and physical activity
  • Keep a food log
  • Track physical activity
  • Participate in regular session-weigh-ins (done privately with support from your facilitator)

How the program works:

  • 1-hour sessions
  • 1 year program – weekly for the first 16 weeks, then twice a month for 2 months, and then 1 time a month for the last 6 months
  • $50 fee – scholarship assistance available upon request
  • Class day, times, and locations vary; weekdays only.
  • Medical provider referrals are highly encouraged and can be faxed to 509-577-5071

If you meet one of the high-risk factors mentioned above, you are eligible to participate in the program.
