Family Birthplace at Yakima Memorial Hospital

Comprehensive maternity care

From the beginning of pregnancy through labor and delivery — and all stages along the journey — our team of specialists are here to help. The Family Birthplace at MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital looks forward to helping families welcome their new little ones into the world.

Features of the Family Birthplace include:

  • Thirty-one rooms where you’ll stay throughout your labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (unless you need extra medical support)
  • Baby stays in the room with mom (unless baby needs extra medical support)
  • Each room includes its own bathroom (with a shower and jetted tub), and a couch or fold-out chair for your guest
  • Two surgical suites for cesarean sections

To access the Family Birthplace during the day, use the main hospital entrance and go to the registration desk. If you arrive between the hours of 4pm and 7am, please use the Emergency Room entrance where the registration area is staffed 24-hours a day.

Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)

The Family Birthplace has a 15-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with specialists that cares for babies who need extra care. We encourage families to become involved in the care of their baby when they arrive in the NICU. As the baby grows stronger and healthier, your care team will work with you to ease into the transition back home.

Breastfeeding support

Support, encouragement and information for nursing parents is offered every Wednesday, between noon – 2pm. This is a free, drop-in service and is located at 2903 West Walnut Ave, Yakima, WA 98902 (get directions). For information or questions, please call 509-746-4240.
