Fellowship Programs

MultiCare’s sponsors fellowships in a variety of fields. The fellowships actively train physicians to gain skills and knowledge in focused areas of medical care. These programs are important to MultiCare because the programs represent an investment in our future, and the future health care of our communities.

Fellowships

Family Medicine with Obstetrics Fellowship – The fellowship trains Family Physicians to provide full-spectrum rural primary care with a focus on high-risk and surgical obstetrics. The training is provided at Tacoma Family Medicine Residency by Family Physicians and eight Obstetrician / Gynecologists. Additional training is provided by perinatologists, nurses, and other specialists. The one-year fellowship has been in Tacoma for more than twenty years.

Addiction Medicine Fellowship – This one-year fellowship trains physicians on comprehensive care for those with substance use disorders. In addition to broad training in clinics and in the hospital, the fellowship focuses on caring for pregnant women with addiction. Fellows gain skills with medication-assisted treatment, behavior modification and systems-based interventions.

Total Joint / Arthroplasty Fellowship – This one-year fellowship provides fellows with a thorough and comprehensive approach to the medical and surgical management of patients with orthopedic conditions affecting the hip or knee.

Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship – This one-year fellowship provides fellows with the training and education necessary to develop and enhance techniques and clinical skills in the preoperative and postoperative management of advanced foregut, colorectal, bariatric and solid organ surgery, with a major emphasis on minimally invasive techniques and emerging technology.

Advanced Colorectal Fellowship – This one-year fellowship provides fellows with a thorough and comprehensive approach by use of da Vinci robots in robotic colon and rectal surgery in addition to open, laparoscopic, and endoscopic equipment for surgery.
