MultiCare hospitals earn hip and knee replacement recognition

MultiCare Allenmore Hospital and MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital

Joint Commission Gold SealTACOMA, Wash. — MultiCare Allenmore Hospital and MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital have earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Total Hip and Knee Replacement Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards.

The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. The certification, offered in collaboration with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, focuses on the presurgical orthopedic consultation to the intraoperative, hospitalization or ambulatory surgical center admission, rehabilitation activities, and follow-up visits with the orthopedic surgeon.

“Obtaining advanced certification isn’t something that is required. It is something we choose to do because we want to be held accountable for the quality of care we provide,” said Ariel Oksendahl, Joint and Spine program manager. “It means the entire team has committed to never lose focus on how we can do better and provide the best care possible.”

Allenmore and Good Samaritan underwent rigorous, unannounced on-site reviews earlier this year. During the visits, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with related certification standards, including:

  • The use of evidence-based practices and clinical practice guidelines to provide total joint care
  • Metrics to consistently monitor outcomes for improvement
  • Comprehensive assessment with patient-centered care
  • Care after hospital discharge
  • Patient involvement in their care

“This demonstrates our commitment to outstanding care,” said Dr. Rob Tamurian, total joint replacement specialist and MultiCare Orthopedics & Sports Medicine medical director. “Excellence is one of our MultiCare core values, and this certification validates the outstanding level of orthopedic care our patients receive. I’m grateful for our MultiCare perioperative teams for their hard work through this rigorous evaluation process.”

This advanced certification from The Joint Commission is also held by MultiCare Valley Hospital in Spokane.
