TACOMA, Wash. — April 1, 2026, marks the five-year anniversary of MultiCare, a nonprofit health care system based in Tacoma, assuming ownership of Capital Medical Center — reaffirming its dedication to providing high-quality, community-focused care in Thurston County while reinvesting locally to support patients, families and caregivers.
As one of the largest employers in Thurston County, MultiCare has quickly grown deep roots in the community, delivering quality health care while playing an active role in the community it serves.
“At the heart of our work is a deep commitment to the people we care for — our friends, neighbors, and family members of Thurston County and the surrounding areas.” said Will Callicoat, president of MultiCare Capital Medical Center. “Over the past five years, we’ve focused on listening to the community, expanding access, and bringing care closer to home. Today’s celebration is more than a ribbon cutting for the new comprehensive breast center; and more than a 5-year anniversary; it’s a recommitment to invest in our community and create better outcomes for patients — today and for generations to come.”
In the past five years, MultiCare has funded $96.3 million in capital improvement projects in the hospital and throughout the region to improve patient care. Among those improvements was investment in the electronic medical record system known as Epic. Other improvements included new X-ray and CT scanners, upgrades to central sterile processing operations and a hybrid operating room for cardiac patients.
MultiCare has also seen significant growth with the addition of two Indigo Urgent Care clinics, a neighborhood emergency department in Lacey, a women’s integrative primary care clinic and, coming later this year, a new ambulatory surgery center and comprehensive breast center.
Outside of the hospitals and clinics, MultiCare has remained philanthropically active in Thurston County. With annual grants to nonprofit organizations, MultiCare’s Community Partnership Fund has awarded more than $335,000 to Thurston County organizations.
