Janna Girardi, MDMedical Director for the Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Program

“I believe that care of medical problems is not possible without care of the whole person. What is happening on the inside of a person’s body shows on the skin.”    

Dr. Janna Girardi serves as medical director for the wound care program. She previously practiced as an OB/GYN and has also trained in obesity medicine. She has special interests in preventive and lifestyle medicine. In her spare time, she likes to get lost in nature.

Katie Scherling, ARNP

Katie Scherling, NP“I provide comprehensive, evidence-based wound management care, with empathy and a cooperative focus. Wound management can consume patients’ lives, so my goal is to develop a collaborative care plan that addresses the cause, facilitates optimal healing and prevents recurrence whenever possible.”         

Katie Scherling has been with our clinics since 2017. In addition to geriatric medicine, her medical areas of interest include limb conservation as well as diabetes management. She enjoys living in Tacoma with her husband and their two dogs. She and her husband share a love of cooking and — when the weather is nice — paddleboarding in Puget Sound.

James McKee, DPM

James McKee, DPM“I provide specialized treatment and education to people at risk of having foot complications related to diabetes. My goal is to help patients avoid major amputation.”   

Dr. James McKee has a special interest in limb preservation (amputation prevention) and diabetic foot ulcers. He is a member of the American Diabetes Association, CLEAR Research Society and the Save A Leg, Save A Life Tacoma chapter. Away from work, he enjoys time with his kids, reading, traveling and all things Star Wars.

Karin Pearson practiced in urgent care for nearly a decade before transitioning to wound care. She believes that wound healing involves the whole person, not just the underlying disease or injury processes. Equally important to her is empowering patients and families to be involved in developing a treatment plan.

Karena Herron practiced in emergency and urgent care before transitioning to wound care. She understands every patient and family are different, with their own unique needs and goals. Her goal is to design an individual treatment plan to help each of her patients achieve the best possible outcome.

Jennifer Gerring has been practicing in wound care since . In addition to geriatric medicine, her medical areas of interest include skin and dermatological sciences. She enjoys hiking, exploring new places (specifically the outdoors), meeting new people from around the world and hearing stories about their life experiences and culture. She also enjoys reading and watching movies.

Anastasia Tunstall-Fernandez practiced family medicine prior to coming to the wound care clinic. She believes working collaboratively with patients to achieve the best outcomes.
