Pediatric Mental & Behavioral Health Services
When children experience mental health concerns, parents and caregivers may feel uncertain about what to do and how to get help. MultiCare offers a full spectrum of services to support children, adolescents and their families, from outpatient counseling to medication management to inpatient care and more.
Our goal is to deliver evidence-based treatments and therapies that help your family overcome challenges and put your child on a path to wellness as they grow into adulthood.
What we treat
Our team of pediatric specialists help children with a wide range of mental and behavioral health concerns. We work with youth who:
- Have mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression or oppositional defiant disorder
- Have developmental delays or neurodevelopmental disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- Have chronic diseases, such as cystic fibrosis, and need mental health support
- Demonstrate disruptive behavioral problems at school or home
- Have experienced trauma, abuse or neglect
- Experience challenges related to sexual orientation or gender identity
How we help
We believe accessing expert, compassionate care for your child should be easy, regardless of the challenge or concern your family is facing. Many of our mental health clinicians provide care within our pediatric clinics or primary care locations. This means your child may be able to receive outpatient behavioral health consultations and treatment in the same place you go for pediatric primary or specialty care. We also partner with school districts to provide on-site behavioral health care in several public schools within Pierce County.
Whether your child receives care in one of our outpatient clinics or another location, we’ll work closely with you to help them develop the tools they need to build a successful life. Each family’s situation is unique, and we believe it’s important to draw upon your values and culture as sources of strength and healing.
The availability of our pediatric services may vary by region. Some of our offerings include:
- Individual, group and family outpatient counseling (therapy)
- Medication management
- Support accessing community resources and advocating for your child’s needs (case management)
- Adolescent inpatient behavioral health care at MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital
- Same-day mental health assessments for children (and adults). Find a location with same-day access.
- Family and peer support services
