An Integrated Approach to Working with Children.  Looking at Sensory Processing, Emotional Development, Social Thinking and Behavior

This recorded webinar course is for parents, caregivers, educators, therapists, and other professionals working with children. Sensory processing, floortime and social thinking are three models that can be effectively used together for success. This class takes an integrated look at several challenging areas that often effect children with special needs; Sensory processing  disorders, emotional developmental delays and social thinking delays.

When all three treatment models are combined for use in clinic, at home, at school and in the community, the child and family have a set of strategies for success across the years and through many environments. These combined models help children and families change maladaptive thinking and behavior, for positive thinking and appropriate choice making for good social possibilities.

A variety of children can benefit from this approach including those with autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing disorders, speech and language deficits, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy and developmental delays, etc.

Objectives

• Participant will have a brief introduction of the seven areas of sensory processing, disorders of sensory processing and strategies to deal with the dysfunction.
• Participant will learn about the first six levels of the DIR/Floor time model and how delays in emotional development effects the child’s over development across gross motor, fine motor, behavior and social development.
• Participant will be introduced to the Social Thinking Curriculum and strategies to help these children navigate the social challenges in home, school and the community.

Audience

Occupational therapists, certified occupational therapists, physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, speech-language pathologists and assistants, parents, caregivers and educators working with children and teens.

Continuing education

2 Education Continuing Hours/Clock Hours (0.2 CEUs) are available. Professionals will complete a post test with a passing score of 70% or better prior to receiving a certificate.
