An Integrated Approach to Working with Children, Part 2: For Professionals (On-Demand)

An Integrated Approach to Working with Children, Part 2: For Professionals (On-Demand)

An Integrated Approach to Working with Children, Part 2:

Reviewing Sensory Processing, Functional Emotional Development from Infancy through the Teen Years, Social Thinking, Behavior and Executive Functioning necessary for Independence

This recorded webinar course is for parents, caregivers, educators, therapists, and other professionals working with children. Sensory processing, DIR/Floortime and Social Thinking are three models that can be effectively used together for success in connecting children with their social world. In combining these three models with The Nurtured Heart positive behavioral model, children and families gain access to a set of strategies that set positive change for a life altering course of connection.

This class takes an integrated look at several challenging areas that often effect children with special needs, sensory processing disorders, functional emotional developmental delays and social thinking delays. When all four treatment models are combined for use in clinic, at home, at school and in the community, the child and family have a set of strategies for success across the years and through many environments. These combined models help children and families change maladaptive thinking and behavior, to positive thinking and appropriate choice making for good social possibilities across a lifespan.

A variety of children can benefit from this approach including those with autism spectrum disorders, sensory processing disorders, speech and language deficits, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy and developmental delays, etc. The intervention techniques for these models involve parent and child coaching, direct one to one intervention, home programming and parent self-study.

OBJECTIVES:
  • Participants will review the seven areas of sensory processing, Cover case examples of specific disorders of sensory processing and strategies to deal with the dysfunction across all ages.
  • Participants will review the first 6 levels of the emotional development and learn about levels 7-10.  Additionally, specific examples of how delays in emotional development can affect the child’s gross motor, fine motor, behavior and social development into middle school, high school college and beyond.
  • Participants will learn about Social Thinking and strategies to help these children navigate the social challenges in home, school and the community.
  • Participants will understand the need to identify social delays early so the child can practice adaptive strategies for emotional and social success.
