Graduate Medical Education – Inland Northwest

An outstanding medical education

The Inland Northwest (INW) Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program, formally launched October 2018, provides a world-class educational experience and delivers an efficient, seamless process for on-boarding students and residents for Deaconess HospitalValley Hospital and Rockwood Clinic. It’s our mission to foster the medical education community throughout the region.

Students and residents from local and long-distance affiliated schools are active in rotations throughout the year with our premier preceptors.  Learning in-patient as well as clinical skills and procedures, our students and residents gain valuable knowledge that will help grow their expertise and professionalism.

Not only will you receive excellent medical training, but you will be surrounded by the beauty and diversity of the Inland Northwest and all it has to offer with cultural festivities, outdoor sports, and spectacular seasons.

Application Process

1. Complete Required Documentation

All on-boarding documentation must be submitted to the INW GME office no less than thirty (30) days in advance of the first day of the learner’s rotation. Once documentation is submitted and reviewed, the GME Office will contact the  student or resident to schedule EPIC training.

See full list of required application documentation here.

Note for Nurses: It is expected that ARNP/NP students find their own preceptors and have that information ready and included when submitting documentation.

2. Complete EPIC Training:

EPIC training is a requirement for INW GME facilities.  We want to ensure each learner has a solid foundation in the use of our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Our INW GME office is ready to assist learners in determining the correct classes to take and to schedule them prior to the beginning of rotation.

Learners who have used EPIC extensively and feel proficient enough in the use and navigation of the EPIC system may sign and submit the EPIC Attestation Form.

To learn more about EPIC classes and modules, please contact Virginia Kilpatrick at 509-473-7297

3. Gain EPIC Access and Complete Badging:

Our INW GME office will ensure that each learner receives their EPIC logon access as well as their personal hospital identification badge that can be activated for each location they need access to.

4. Get Started!

Once training is complete, learners may begin their rotation as scheduled.  Questions or issues that arise during the rotation may be addressed with the INW GME staff for resolution.
