Jon Boyum, MD, thoracic surgery, joined MultiCare Rockwood Clinic in January 2014. He is a graduate of Gonzaga University and the University of Washington School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery training at the University of Vermont, before serving in the Army as a general surgeon with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He then completed his thoracic surgery training at OHSU and now works in Spokane as a General Thoracic Surgeon.

Dr. Boyum is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and is a member of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. His special interests include minimally invasive surgery and a variety of complex VATS procedures. These are procedures that typically require a large incision with a prolonged recover time. By using a camera with small incisions, patients can expect less postoperative pain and faster return to work and normal life. These procedures include lobectomy for lung cancer, decortication, thymectomy and lung biopsy. He is also experienced with minimally invasive procedures for both malignant and benign esophageal disease, including esophageal cancer, repair of diaphragmatic and large paraesophageal hernias, and surgical treatment of achalasia.

I can't even begin to express my gratitude for being lucky enough to having been assigned such an outstanding physician. He (Dr. Boyum) and his MA are phenomenal, compassionate and beyond knowledgeable care givers. The kindness and concern they put forth, making me feel completely at ease and understanding my anxiety over my diagnosis was beyond impressive. These professionals are the models of excellence!!
