Our Board Leadership

MultiCare is privileged to have the oversight of a number of all-volunteer boards. These boards help steer our organization and ensure we stay true to our mission. Our system Board of Directors includes the following individuals.

John S. Wiborg

Chair

John has served on the Board since 2002 and assumed the role of Board Chair in 2014. He is president and founder of Stellar Industrial Supply, Inc.

Deedra Smith Walkey

Vice Chair

Deedra has been on the Board since 2010. She is an attorney and investment committee member for institutional investors.

Frank Tombari

Treasurer

Frank served as Chair of the MultiCare Inland Northwest Integrated Regional Board from 2018 to 2022 and continues to serve as a member of that Board.

He joined the MultiCare Finance and Audit Committee in April 2019, on which he currently serves as Chair, and has been a Director on the System Board since January 2022. Frank worked in the banking industry for over 46 years before retiring in 2021.

Sally B. Leighton

Secretary

Sally joined the Board in 2001. Before retiring, she was a private practice lawyer in Tacoma, most recently at Fitzer, Leighton & Fitzer, P.S.

Carsten Beith

Carsten joined the Board in 2025. A finance and investment banking leader with over 40 years of experience, he is currently the managing principal of Beith Capital Advisory, LLC, which he founded in 2023.

Joanna S. Monroe

Joanna rejoined the Board in January 2024. She is a governance, risk and employment law expert with 25 years of experience helping organizations grow revenue and profit while reducing risk. Joanna has extensive expertise in helping for-profit, nonprofit and government organizations succeed in a dynamic regulatory environment. She is an attorney and managing partner at Staffing GC.

Tariq Salam, MD

Dr. Salam joined the Board at the end of 2020. He is a board-certified cardiac electrophysiologist and has treated patients at MultiCare for more than 17 years. He serves as the medical director for Heart Rhythm Services at MultiCare Pulse Heart Institute.

Dale Sowell

Dale has been a Director since 2001. He retired in 2020 from his role as vice president and chief financial officer at Green Diamond Resource Company, a forest products company headquartered in Seattle.

Russell Stockdale

Russell (Russ) is a retired software executive who joined the MultiCare Board in 2024. He previously served on the Overlake Medical Center Board of Trustees from 2010 through 2022 and was a founding board member of the Eastside Health Alliance joint venture between Overlake and EvergreenHealth Medical Center.

Janine Terrano

Janine rejoined the MultiCare Board in August 2022. She is the founder and chief executive officer of Topia Technology, Inc., which focuses on the secure movement and management of data between disparate components, devices, platforms and systems.

Robin Thomashauer

Robin has been a member of the Board since the end of 2020. She is the founder and president of CAQH, a non-profit alliance that aims to streamline health care operations.

Jason R. Thompson

Jason joined the MultiCare Board in January 2025. He has been with Russell Investments for over 30 years, and is currently serving as director for the firm’s Americas Institutional business. Jason was previously chair of the Board of Directors for Overlake Medical Center & Clinics.
