MyChart Account & Access FAQs

Enrolling in MyChart

There are several different methods of MyChart signup that might be used by different departments across your healthcare organization:

  • Clinic staff might sign you up directly while you’re at the front desk or in the exam room.
  • You might receive a MyChart activation code on your After Visit Summary or on a billing statement.
  • You might receive a text message or email with an activation code when you come in for a visit.
  • You might be able to use self-signup online to create a MyChart account by matching your information against what is on file in your medical record or with third-party identity verification.

You need access to a computer or mobile device connected to the Internet and an up-to-date browser (such as Edge, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari). You can also use the MyChart mobile app on a mobile device.

If you don’t have an activation code, you can request one on the sign-up page. You can also contact us at 844-388-2356. After we verify your information, you will receive a new code.

For your security, your activation code expires after a set period of time and is no longer valid after the first time you use it. If you still have problems, call our MyChart Patient Support Line at 844-388-2356.

We take great care to ensure your health information is kept private and secure. Access to information is controlled through secure activation codes, personal usernames, and passwords. Each person controls their password, and the account must be accessed using that password. On mobile, the account may also be accessed using face ID or fingerprint login. Unlike conventional email, all MyChart messaging is done while you are securely logged in to our website or mobile app.

Two-step verification ensures that your account stays secure even if someone else has your username or password. With this feature, you must enter a code that is sent to you by email or text message to log in to MyChart, in addition to using your username and password. For more information, check out our helpful video on two-step verification.

You might receive email or text notifications that contain links to MyChart. These notifications allow you to login to MyChart securely using a link that expires after a short time. Keeping your MyChart account secure means keeping your phone number and email account secure. If you think that your phone number or email account may be compromised, you can change the phone number or email account on file on the “Personal Information” page in MyChart.

  • View your chart: See much of the same information your providers and nurses see, such as the reason for your visit, medications and lab results.
  • Help manage a family member’s health: As a patient proxy, you can help your loved one during their hospital stay with access to their health information, whether you’re in the emergency department with them or on the go. Get additional information about MyChart proxy access.

On the Personal Information page in MyChart, you can update your address, phone number, email address, preferred name, and other personal details at any time so that your clinic always has the most up-to-date information in your record.

To change your legal name in MyChart, please visit any MultiCare outpatient clinic and show the receptionist your photo identification. We cannot change legal names by phone because we must see your ID in person.

No, due to the sensitive nature of medical information, each person must have their own MyChart account.

Yes, you can. MyChart proxy access allows you to access the medical records of your family members and others you care for, with their permission. You must be at least 18 years old to have proxy access to another person’s medical record.

If you’ve received care at another organization that uses the Epic medical record system, you can link accounts to view details about your care like medications, allergies and health concerns — all in one place.

When you link accounts using the Happy Together feature, you can view test results, message your providers, and schedule appointments without logging into a separate account.

  • Log in to your MyChart account
  • Select Link My Accounts from the Sharing section of the menu
  • Search for and select the organizations where you have other MyChart accounts
  • Once you answer a verification question, the accounts are linked

You can request that we deactivate your account by contacting the MyChart Patient Support Line at 844-388-2356. To have your account re-activated, call our MyChart Patient Support Line at 844-388-2356.

Your medical record

With MyChart, you can view most test results as soon as they become available. Know that you will likely see results before your healthcare provider has had a chance to review them. After your provider reviews your results, you might see additional comments and interpretation in MyChart.

Your MyChart information comes directly from your electronic medical record at your provider’s office. Ask your provider to correct any inaccurate information at your next clinic visit. Your health information is reviewed and updated in your electronic medical record after each visit.

In MyChart you can add, delete and change your pharmacy preferences at any time. Keeping your pharmacy list up to date can make refill requests and appointment check-in faster. Read the patient tip sheet to learn more about how to set up MultiCare as a preferred pharmacy.

MyChart Care Companion is an interactive tool designed to keep you connected and on track with your care plan. It’s available for select conditions, and your provider will enroll you.

Care Companion provides:

  • Task checklists
  • Educational resources
  • Direct communication with your care team

Two-factor authentication

As of Saturday, May 10, 2025, MultiCare MyChart now requires two-factor authentication when users log in. This security update adds an extra layer of protection, ensuring that even if someone knows your password, they cannot access your account without verifying your identity through a secondary device or account.

Also called two-step verification or multi-factor authentication, this extra step creates additional security to keep your information safe when logging in from a new device or internet browser. It ensures that even if your MyChart password is stolen, others will not be able to access your account without a code.

  • Step One: Log in to MyChart with your usual username and password
  • Step Two: You’ll be prompted to enter a verification code that will be sent via text message or email to the contact information in your MyChart account

Every time you log in from a new device (smartphone, computer, tablet, etc.) or a new internet browser (such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari), you’ll be prompted to enter a verification code to confirm your identity.

  • After you complete Step One (logging in with your username and password), you will be able to choose where to receive the verification code (through text message or email*).
  • After completing Step Two (entering the verification code), you will have the option to select Skip this step next time. If you do, you won’t be asked to complete Step Two again for 90 days on that device and/or browser.

* If you do not have a mobile number on file, email will be your only option in Step Two. To add a mobile number to your account, you can update your personal information in MyChart at any time.

To prevent being logged out, do not close the login screen while retrieving your verification code.

  • Using a web browser: Open a new browser tab or use a separate device to access your email.
  • Using the MyChart app: Keep the app open while checking your email or text messages for the verification code.

Closing the MyChart app or webpage before entering the code will log you out and require a new login code.

Starting May 10, 2025, two-factor authentication (two-step verification or 2FA) will be required every time you log in to MyChart from a new device or browser. This feature can no longer be disabled.

  • Wait a few minutes to account for possible delays due to internet or phone service.
  • If using email, check your junk or spam folder, as codes may be filtered by email applications. Also, check any other email addresses linked to your MyChart account.
  • If using text messaging, ensure your phone has a strong signal and can receive texts.
  • Verify your contact information — the email or phone number displayed on the verification screen should match the one you are using
  • Click “Resend Code” if you still haven’t received it after a few minutes.

For further assistance, contact MyChart customer support at 844-388-2356, Monday through Friday, 7am to 5pm PST.

Creating a passkey

Passkeys provide a more secure way to log in to your account. They allow you to bypass two-factor authentication by using your device’s built-in security, such as a PIN or biometric login (fingerprint, Face ID or other methods).

  • Passkeys are now available when logging in to MyChart from a browser.
  • Before setting up a passkey, you must enable two-factor authentication.
  • Once your passkey is set up, you can log in through the username field or the Log in with passkey button on the MyChart login page.

  1. Log in to MyChart using your username, password and two-factor authentication.
  2. Navigate to Explore More at the bottom of your home screen and select Log in with a passkey, or go to Account SettingsManage passkeysPasskey Management.
  3. Click Add new passkey and follow the prompts for your browser or operating system.

If you have been in your MyChart session for more than 10 minutes, you will need to reenter your account password for security.

Once set up, use the pencil icon to edit or rename the passkey to your preference.

  • Instead of entering a username and password, select Log in with passkey.
  • Unlock your passkey using your chosen identification method, such as biometrics (Face ID, fingerprint) or your device PIN.

If you are switching devices and/or no longer need access to an old passkey:

  1. Go to Passkey Management under Account Settings and click the Remove passkey button (trash icon).
  2. Remove the passkey from your password manager (Google Password Manager, iCloud Keychain, etc.) for full removal.

No. Users with passkeys can choose to log in using their username and password (with two-factor authentication) or log in with a passkey.
