ZINNIA Award

Introducing the ZINNIA Award for Yakima Memorial physicians and advanced practice providers

Just like the resilient and vibrant zinnia flower, this award celebrates clinicians who bring strength, compassion and unwavering commitment to quality and safety — helping patients and our system thrive in any circumstance.

What is the ZINNIA Award?

The ZINNIA Award honors physicians (MD/DO) and advanced practice providers (NP, PA) who are members of the MultiCare Yakima Memorial Hospital medical staff and exemplify:

  • Clinical excellence and compassion
  • Leadership in quality improvement and patient safety

The award recognizes exceptional contributions that lead to improved outcomes for individual patients or meaningful advancements in systems of care delivery, reducing harm and strengthening quality across the organization.

The ZINNIA Award program will be managed by the Medical Executive Committee with support from the medical staff and quality and safety departments.

The ZINNIA Awards aim to:

  • Recognize exceptional contributions to safety and quality
  • Share inspiring stories of clinical leadership
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration

Nomination categories

Nominations may be submitted for contributions in one or more of the following categories:

  • Individual Patient Impact: Actions that significantly improved safety or outcomes for a single patient
  • System or Population Impact: Initiatives that enhance care delivery, reduce harm or improve safety metrics
  • Teamwork & Safety Culture: Efforts that foster collaboration, psychological safety and speaking up for safety

Nominations can be made at any time by anyone (staff, clinicians, leaders, patients, families) by completing the nomination form. Individuals may be nominated in multiple categories.

One nominee in each category will be chosen to receive the ZINNIA Award each quarter and be formally recognized at the Medical Executive Committee meeting. They will also be presented with a certificate and lapel pin in a small ceremony held in their clinical workspace, and featured on Point MultiCare and in other organizational communications.

Tip for a strong nomination: Be specific and include patient stories or measurable outcomes when possible.
